Hi robert s4, I wouldn't say easy, soft sand in some places, and a large mud flat if you plan to go to the Monument. I would walk the mud flat first, it is tidal.

Hi Robert

Not quite As I told you before the road from Kalpower to Wookooka is maintained gravel . The track from Wookooka is just that , a track. There are numerous washouts and sandy patches as well as claypans . You will need to allow 2 hours from Wookooka into the Bathurst Bay , Cape Melville National Park area.
To get to Cape Melville will take about another hour depending on how you handle the conditions and how many stops you make.

Do not take this area lightly. As I said in a previous post this area is remote and depending on when you travel you may have the area to yourself so you will need communications and a properly prepared vehicle.

This information is current from Oct 2011 and you won't be going this year so after the wet season the conditions will change.

Hope this helps your planning

Cheers Teza

EFS suspension is made by Carrol Springs in Brisbane [ leaves anyway]

Without knowing the vehicle that you want to lift and the weights that you expect to carry your question is very open ended.

I would suggest that you work out the weight of the gear you wish to carry and take this together with the vehicle to a spring works or a reputable after market supplier such as ARB , TJM , etc so you can make the correct assessment. Springs and shockies should be matched.
It's not all about dollars or looks but what will do the job in the best manner and cause the vehicle less stress.

I don't know where you reside so am unable to suggest any local companies.

Cheers Teza

I have a 3 L patrol fitted with poly air and have had no worries even with drawers , one filled with tools the other with small stove and cooking gear . Also carry tent , swags etc and with 20 foot van attached. I think you may find poly air will solve your rear spring problem .

I wouldn't be installing airbags if you are going to use your patrol for heavy offroad use. The patrols spring towers and chassis are prone to cracking in these areas. There great for people that tow on our highways.

The coils are just too stiff with airbags in them for offroad use on the patrol. Im sure its been written before by others saying this on the forum as well. The patrol forum will show countless examples of chassis breaking.

Hi Robert, have a look at the Atoc engineering website. There is a spring tower kit they can install to strengthen this area. My drivers side spring tower cracked and the towers had both been pushed up within millimetres of the brake lines. They repaired all this and installed the correct rate springs without airbags.

Just towed my 3 tonne van around oz and did a lot of heavy off road use with the patrol very heavily loaded and the spring towers and chassis are holding up great. One of the best mods I have done. Gives you a lot more confidence. I have no affiation at all with Atoc.
