Hi I have loaded all my Memory Maps from my excellent Hema H5i on to my Apple iPad2 and it works like a charm. The only small problem I have is that the GPS location icon disappears of the edge of the screen when travelling. In other words unlike the Hema I have to move the map to keep the icon on the screen.
I have checked the Memory Map on line help screed and unfortunately that is worded to suit the iPhone as the control icons are different The tech guys at Memory Maps dont seem to have much knowledge of iPads.
This is not a major problem but I would like to know if it is fixable.

Looks to me if you will only be able to have short trips from now on Charles, you could end up driving off the continent.
Cheers

Hi, I've used MM extensively on the iPhone not the iPad. On the map display screen, to centre the screen on the current location touch the middle icon (the circle with the four compass points inside it). After you have done that the current location should be locked to a position on the screen even if you scroll it while maintaining the current location still on the display. You can also press and hold the middle icon for 4 seconds to lock the screen (an unlock button appears).
There is online help at
http://www.memory-map.com/mm-iphone-help.htm, hope that helps.
Cheers John

Thanks John When you are talking about the middle icon you mean the centre one of five. The one with the ring with four short spokes. If I hold that one down for a few seconds it locks the screen and it shows an unlock icon on the bottom. Perhaps I should just lightly touch it.

You touch it to simply set the track mode where the current position stays in the centre of the screen, the manual (which has no screen shots and describes icons that don't exist on either iPod or iPad) says you can drag the screen position and as long as the current position is still on it the map will move retaining that locn for the current position.
You hold it down to lock it, this is useful to stop inadvertant selection of other options if you are just following the map.

Thanks Guys, In spite of my extremely limited knowledge of computers etc I have finally sorted out the Memory Maps on my iPad no thanks to Memory Maps.
You are right Blue2 Memory Maps instruction screed is not worth a bumper and for that matter neither are their tech guys at their office in the UK when it comes to iPads.
I expect one of the reasons is that MM market their own 7inch navigation unit and therefore are not interested in helping with any problems or providing information on iPads or IPods. I expect it was an afterthought that MM added the word iPad at the top of their on line instructions covering iPhones.
Thanks again for your help

Whilst we are on this subject can you alternate your heading on the map to face the way you are travelling.? On my marine plotters you can have course up or north up etc. At the moment it has me travelling sideways, would be great to change the orientation.>?

The map only rotates 180 deg, ie Portrait or Landscape. There are however two pointers on the screen.
If the iPad is handheld then you can rotate it such that the velocity vector (thin red arrow) is pointing straight ahead (from help: If you are moving, you may also see a Velocity Vector. This is an arrow that shows your direction and speed of travel. The length of the vector is scaled to show where you will be if you maintain the same speed and heading for 5 minutes. You can change the scale by touching the green Settings button on the Flip side page, and selecting GPS settings.).
If your iPhone is equipped with a compass, the position indicator has a red triangle that points in the direction the iPhone is pointing. There are two ways you can use the compass feature. Firstly, point the iPhone in an intended direction of travel, or in the direction of a feature you want to identify on the map. The indicator triangle then shows that direction on the map. Secondly rotate the iPhone so that the indicator triangle points to the top of the screen. When it is pointing straight up, the map is now oriented geographically, so that directions on the map are the same as directions on the ground.

Hi Blue2 Sounds like you are
well clued up on this subject so will leave it to you.
My only problem that I can envisage is that my wife may
well want to turn the map upside down and screw it off the windscreen mount (as women do ) !!
