do you have an air blockage to the fuel pump(air on top of the fuel filter) make sure the hand primer is hard
the battery check its state of charge

Might seem a bit strange but are you using the key you would normally use and not a spare? Does that key have the thick black end piece with the immobiliser switch in it. Have you dropped your keys in dirt, dust, mud or water recently? Notoriously fickle if dirty.

You might do well to pop over and ask the question at the Patrol4x4 forum also.

Cheers Mick

Two good responses above....both could be the source of your problem but before going off to Mr Nissan to get the key checked make sure your fuel system is primed....keep pumping that black knob atop the fuel filter until you can't compress it anymore.

Blocked filter ?
Filter ?.... Even new ones can be faulty !!!

Small hole in fuel line ?
Cracked or unsealed fuel filter/primer mount ?
Crook fuel ?
Are there any inline filters, as with the mighty 4.2, that flattened my Patrol for 2 days, til it was located and cleaned ?

Get down to a diesel specialist, not necessarily a Nissan Dealer, as they charge way too much

Sorry to say this but I believe your problem is with the electronics in the injector pump not cheap to have fixed as I had a similar problem and after lot of so called experts having a go at it and having mine towed from place to place this was the fault

We had the same problem with one of our works vehicles up by Lake Eyre every thing seemed to work but it would not start. Work arranged for the mechanic from Copley to come and check it out and when he arrived on site he removed the panel under the steering column and pulled out the relays (there is 4 of them from memory) one at a time and then replaced them and the vehicle started. He reckons it is a very common fault with Nissans especially if they are used in a dusty envioronment

Beegee, I've just been down the same road and its expensive around $3500. The problem is more than likely the contol unit on the injector pump. Another cause of the problem is a faulty sensor on the injector pump. You don't say where you are based, but if in Perth the only place to get it fixed is United Fuel Injector Systems Gt Eastern H'way, Redcliff

Check the battery
Some times the battery has enough power to crank the engine but not enough to run the electronics. I had one in my workshop like this. Put a new battery in it and it fired.

BG,
Regardless of the outcome of your current problem I would join the Patrol Forum and probably the Outer Limits 4x4 Forum as well.
