Hi, The Superwinch that came with my ex-demonstrator HiLux never worked, & just was replaced under warranty. It had water in it - maybe from a water crossing - though have heard of another in the same predicament from rain/car washing only. I was told to not take this one through water - though when low-mounted on a Low'Lux - it's got a snowflake's chance in hell (even just puddles on the road).

Is there any way of waterproofing this winch - short of un-installing it & selling it newish to some other hopeful soul?

Regards.

Well they sound like rubbish then.

Why not buy an anchor winch surely they can handle a bit of water.

Cheers.

I know Guest 4x4 in melbourne insist on sending any winch they are going to install for a client away to be waterproofed / protected before they will install it.

So there must be someone out there doing them.

First of all make sure the winch is not upside down with the drain holes at the top...

The drain holes must be at the bottom.

I had an X9 Superwinch for years and when crossing water you should use a water bra and keep moving,,,, you should be fine...

Something is not as it should seem with your winch...

Check it out..

Also after each dunking you should pull it apart and service it..
I mean after each big trip...

I'll make up a small water bra or cover just for the winch so it's always there. I'm fearful of even taking it just through rain... & if all else fails to keep it in working order - my boat needs & heavy anchor! Cheers.
