As a trailer sailer owner for many years I would suggest yo get one with a drop keel if you plan to tow the boat to different locations - and there are great places to sail where a deep draft boat is a challenge to launch or come close to the shore.
A 20 footer has limited interior space and the one I had got very cramped for two inside a week - OK for day sailing.

I opened the link and there was a picture of a yacht on the Gippsland Lakes. It brought back great memories of Marley Point over night races.
And it should be OK to ask a question about a boat on this forum. You can explore Oz in a boat just as you can in a 4WD or any other car for that matter.

Is it a swing keel or fixed keel version?

Thanks for all the information so far

Shaker

It is a fixed keel version

We are happy enough with the fixed keel over the swing as we have spent the past 10 years travelling around australia (working unfortunatly) in our van and have recently bought a home on the Huon in Tassie & are looking for a boat to sail in the local waters on weekends and it will be moored out the front in the river

We also figure if it is moored & ready to sail we will probably use it more often than if it is on a trailer

You are absolutely right Don. I had trailer yachts and then graduated to small keel boats on Broken Bay, Port Phillip Bay and finally on Moretom Bay and up and down the east coast. Ultimately got up to 10 meters. If you can organise a good mooring where you can keep the boat ready to go you will use it a lot more than if you have to launch and rig it. Will your mooring be in the Derwent?

It would probably be a perfect little boat for sailing on the Huon, I am very jealous, what a magnificent area.
Are you buying privately or through a broker, I have been in yacht brokerage for the past 18 years.

Kevin

We would moor it out the front of our house in the Huon River

Shaker

It is a private sale

We haven't had a close look at it yet but from a distance it looks tidy enough

It was built in 1981

Is there anything in particular i should be looking out for in a glass boat of this age

One question i was wondering is on a day sail how many adults would comfortably & safely fit on a 20 footer (normally it would by my wife & i but if frends or rellies visit we would like to be able to take them out as well)

If you dont mind me asking

They are asking around $12.000 for it

If it is in good condition do you think this is a fair price

The price sounds fair, although it is obviously dependent on condition, inventory & whether it is inboard diesel or outboard motor.
Comfortable sailing would be with a crew of 4, I am sure 6 would be legal, but would be crowded.
As far problems to look for, check with your insurer to see if they will require a full marine survey of the vessel.
If they do, it should uncover any defects, expect some!
Don't let people frighten you with the word 'osmosis' , it is quite uncommon & rarely an issue.
They are quite a good little yacht designed by Kim Swarbrick with an encapsulated lead keel, so you have no keel bolts to worry about.

Thanks for that information

The boat has a outboard motor fitted

Is there any insurance company you would recomend & i assume it would be worth having a survey carried out prior to purchase to see if there are any major problems with it

A full marine survey normally costs between $22.00 & about $26.00 per foot of boat length.
Try Nautilus Marine or Club Marine for insurance, others will say that there are cheaper, but it is better to stick with people that understand the vagaries of marine claims.

Please disregard my approval of the price!

For some reason I was thinking Spacesailer 24, which we have had a few over the years.
The price seems too high & should be closer to $8,000.00, have a look here: SPACESAILER 20.
Sorry for the confusion.

Shaker

I had a good look around the hull from my Kayak this morning & took a couple of photo's of some crazing in one spot on theside of the hull

Would it be possible that i can email (do you have a email address i can send them to) them to you to have a look at and give me your opinion if they are just superficial (i think they probably are)

Thank you for your assistance so far

Regards Don
