Tanyia,

I think you missed a word with the CampsSnaps Australia Wide 6 - Spiral Bound Mega B4 ;)

This one has a general photo of the camp site (note not all sites have a photo).

Cheers Kev

Hi Tanyia B, I have the Spiral Bound and it is big, too big for the glove box , put mine under the seat. I'm not shore about mega b4 but think it is the same size as a piece of b4 paper. Both would have the same information in them with photos of camp grounds.Well worth buying for the free camps as well.

Hi Kate, Thanks for you comment, Yes I do sleep in the pod but also have a tent and a cot tent as well for different types of camping they are (ORS) drawers and go full length, and hold heaps. the fridge is a drop down and the freezer is slide out as you only use the freezer once a day. The cooker slides out and connects to a 2kg gas bottle. have large storage space in back and in the front all the electrics eg: 1600W inverter DC-DC charger and a 9ltr air tank with compressor all under the 2 85lt water tanks, which flow to the shower pump under the tray. Here are some pictures of it being built. The pod was built so only the ends are welded and I was measured when sitting so to get the hight when you sit up in bed so you don't hit you head on the roof, this made it a bit higher but more comfortable. My email address is andrewasmus@bigpond.com if you would like more photos as it easier

Hi Tanya,

There are 3 differences:

1, Price the Mega B4 id more expensive.
2, The Mega B4 has a picture of the camp site. The pictures are generally quite accurate unless it relates to a lake. Many of the lake seems to have much less water than in the picture.

3, Size. Unfortunately the Mega B4 book or generally called Campsnaps is really large and is a bit of a pain when travelling.

There is not a great deal of difference between 5 and 6 unless you happen to be in SA. There are 250 more camp sites in SA in the new book. The new book is much better with indicating "telstra Next G" reception than the camps 5 book. This is great for internet at night when camped in one of the spots.

Tanya, one of the best things of being new to camping is finding out everything. It is half the fun.

Sorry Tanyia

I think I gave you the wrong impression about the camps book. The larger one is much better, even though it is bigger and costs more.

The pictures are very helpful in picking a camp spot and well worth the extra money. ( Bet the publishers love people saying this kind of stuff). It will save you money on accomodation and make picking a great camp spot that much easier.

There are also updates available for the camps books on the internet as well. I think each month they comes out.

We also swap ( as in borrow for 20 minutes) a camps book from someone travelling in the opposite direction. Then we read the notes they have written about camp sites and put them in our book for the future.

I am the master of staying in a crappy camp site, only to descover a great one 5 kilometers further down the road.

Hi Carl

I am after a book also but before handing out money I need a little information. The camps we want are pretty much non caravan park types. I believe they may be referred to as "free" camps. Does that mean they are "free" in a financial sense or free as in "camp anywhere"?

Moving on: Maybe if you tell me if Elim, just above Cooktown QLD, Clayton SA, near Marree and Neale Junction WA, on the Annie Beadel Highway are in it and what the photo is like, If it's not too much trouble.

I would like to look at a book before I buy it but they are sealed.

They are fairly remote and a good cross section of the type of places we wish to pass through/camp at.

Phil

Hi Swampy - Don't Camps Australia Wide do one on caravan parks too?

There are plenty of websites with lots of carvan parks listed. I have links to a few of the better ones here

Hi Tanyia

Don't forget to key an eye on the updates on their websites. With changes and closures all the time it is the only way to keep up to date.

I have had versions of the regular ones, not with the snaps, both in spiral bound and perfect bound. Personally i found it easier with the perfect bound, as when turning pages in the car with the spiral it was easy to tear the pages. I don;t want anything bulky in the car or on my lap, so prefer the basic editions.
