Gooday all, hope everyone has a good 2012, my first post
have just purchased this at auction for $24,000 it's a standard manual 94000k with wide sunraisyers and snorkel, or chimney as my daughter first said, ha ha
mainly be using it for beach work and towing the boat, highway use age 6kl per litre? seems a bit fierce, i'm not a rev head this is unladen sitting on 100k/h
is this pretty normal?, cheers joe

Joe,
6kl per litre, that equates to around 16.6Lt /100Km, depending on how heavy the boat is this might be about right.

I have the same motor (Toyota 4.2 100 sr TD) in my Patrol & towing my 2.2 tonne caravan returns me a consumption of around 17-18Lt / 100Km. Without the van that drops to a respectable 11-12Lt / 100 Km.
cheers Colin.

Hi Steve
That beast of mine is just fine mate. We have been touring a bit lately, Darwin & FNQ. Not at home much to look at the puter lol. Happy new year to you & the family. Colin.

Thats about 16.3 litres per 100 ks. For towing it seems about right depending on what you are towing of course, if it's a 12 foot tinny it seems a bit high, but if its a 2 tonne cruiser then it'd be pretty good.

There are those among us who say that model is the best one they made.

this question was recently asked on LCOOL forum, the responses ranged anywhere from 13 - 18 ltrs / 100klms, even worse when towing fully loaded.

You'll pay dearly for a good 1HD-FTE and I reckon their quite economical C/W the 1HZ.

Hi Joe,

I've had my 1HZ for about 5 years now (2003 LC100 GXL) and kept fuel consumption records the whole time. For the mileage your vehicle has done I was getting about 13L/100kms average (unladened). On trips fully loaded, it would get up to 15-16L/100 with the roof rack fully packed on-board.

Depending on what your towing, and assuming the consumption figure you've quoted is towing the boat, 16-17L/100kms is about right. If you're not towing, then it's a bit high. Have you got a roof rack permanently mounted on the vehicle? This can also affect fuel consumption by up to 5-10%.

Cheers

Gooday Rob, thanks for your and everyone else's reply, unfortunately I was empty, nothing being towed, no roof rack, does have wide wheels and i know that will make a difference but sounds like i may have to get the injectors looked at. It actually sounds a bit noisey like a holed muffler or manifold leak although no ticks or obvious signs, will get it inspected, thanks again.

as far as the price goes it wont let me insure it for less then $32400 so i must have done something right!!, regards joe

Hi All, I wonder if someone can confirm or deny this, but I had heard that towing with the troopy wasn't a good idea as the fifth gear and reverse are on a smaller spline and as a result of towing it breaks the housing for this spline and jams the gearbox?

wrong thread for this question, but, you heard right, preatty much any gearbox doesn't take to kindly to towing in 5th, they are not designed to work in overdrive, just cruise

There is a mod you can do to make that better by around 1 - 1.5litres per 100kms. So you should be able to boost this up to around 7kms per litre.
If you are interested, ring me 0422942382.
Mod takes around 5 mins.
Need to ring after 9pm Adelaide time.
I just need to be standing in front of my engine at the the same time you are too.
I have the same car and a Toyota mechanic told me this little trick..
Cheers.

You say Wide Sunraisias, just how wide a tyre are you running, you will get a lot better mileage running 265's or 275 than you will running 305's or 315's.
