We are planning to do the Simpson Desert in the middle of the year. Just wondering if anyone has left a caravan anywhere in the vicinity, done the track, then returned to collect their van.

We were thinking that Birdsville would probably be the go, but open to any suggestions/ideas please.

Plenty just park their van in Birdsville and go out to Poeppels corner and return over a week or so to do it slowly.
Crossing the desert to Dalhousie would either involve a return crossing or a big loop around down the Oodnadatta track and then back up the Birdsville track.
Lots just do a day trip out to big red too.
