We recently went for a drive on the beach at the site of the Alkimos wreck. Rangers issued us with a $100 infringement notice. I thought we might have got a caution as we were unaware that we were committing an offence and no warning signs - but no such luck. I'd be interested to hear if any one else has had a similar experience in that area.

I think you will find that driving on the beach in any part of the Shire of Wanneroo was banned many years ago. Rangers and Police conduct regular blitzes. Accessing the beach Nth of Wilbinga is still sort of allowed. For further info contact the relevant shire. rgds
Slow down and relax......

I agree with Maverick, Wanneroo shire banned this many many years ago . The "4WD clubs " have not been down there for at least 10 years, lots of other people have done but at your own risk. Wilbinga is in the shire on Gin Gin and is ok to go on the beach or was unless changed recently

Hi Mavevrick and desray, yes you're both right. I spoke with a ranger from the Shire of Gin Gin and he said, quote "come on up we're friendly up here". You are allowed to drive on the beach in the Gin Gin Shire- no camping and no fires. So we'll be going up there from now on. Thanks for positive feedback and advice.

We used to ride our dirtbikes up that way over ten years ago and were told by rangers that it was a sensitive area so we had to move on. I tavelled back down that way a few years back only to see that area had been bulldozed and turned into subdivisions go figure it wasn't that sensitive after all.

I suppose once the birds or other animals had been scared off or had their habitat destroyed by the trail bikes or other "recreational" users there was not much use protecting it any more.

I'm sure the copious amounts of money offered from the land developers had nothing to do with it but you do have a point with the wildlife and there habitat.

I was told that the Wanneroo council think they have a duty of care towards you and want to make sure you don't hurt yourself when off road.
Nothing whatsosever about preserving the flora and fauna as the developers will come along, normally in Springtime, and flatten the lot.
And there'll be wads of folding changing hands as always if the land requires rezoning.

No wasn't given the chance to argue the point, there were 3 of them and one of me, one was having a bad day and less than friendly so I moved on. However I did write to them and suggest that a caution along with a brochure telling where I could and could'nt go may have been more appropriate. The two page response was as youd expect - duty of care, and yes environmental concerns, my responsibility to familiarise my self with council regulations etc etc. It as disappointing because we are new to the area, there were no signs and dozens of other vehicles in the area. Anyway just wanted to put it out there and let peolpe know not to go there.

Gingin Shire won't stay friendly if people keep trying to sue them when they get hurt driving the dunes...
