Hi Everyone
My GU 2.8tdi has recently developed an engine vibration. The vibration occurs in a relatively limited band between 1200 and 1400 rpm. I have heard that this is a relatively common problem with this engine - can anyone tell me what causes it? Is there some sort of dynamic balance problem and if so what can I do to fix it?

G'day Patrol22
Had same problem in my GU 2.8tdi. Engine mount failure. Replaced under warranty. No further problems.

I guess it could be a lot of things, but it happened to
mine after 5000k. Nissan replaced computer with an upgraded unit, flywheel, fuel pump, clutch, checked engine mounts and drive shafts. Eventually fixed it with the new flywheel. Took about 6 months. Since then (1998) have had no problems.
Couple of mates had same and Nissan replaced their clutches under warranty after a fair bit of persuasion (but they were still within the warranty period). I haven't heard of any more hassles for them, and
mine has now done 75K - mostly long distance towing boats with no further problems.
Stick with it. These are great trucks - even though they're underpowered low down they're the ducks guts for long distance travelling. As far as I could ever work out (or was told), the problem I had was created by the flywheel/clutch combination from new although it didn't show up for 5000K. Mates both had similarly low distances.

I had the same prob with my 3.0 td and i got rid of it because i got sick of people telling me it was just how diesels are. Its very hard to find the problem. Now have a new Pajero. Smooth, very smooth.

Thanks for the responses everyone, I guess I'll get the boys at Monaro Off Road to check it out at the next service.
Mine is probably a little different in that I had it since 1998 and it now has 130000kms (give 200 Kms) and I've had absolutely nothing go wrong with it yet. This particular vibration is not there all the time either so buggered if I know - I'll leave it to the experts. Once again thanks for the responses.
