Walkers Crossing

Route for driving between Birdsville and Innamincka through the flood plain country of the nothern overlow of the Cooper Creek before rising onto the Sturt Stony Desert on the Birdsville Track.

I'm sure a few of you have felt a little frustrated that this shortcut between Innamincka and the Birdsville Track has been closed a long time.

But a friend who works that way tells me the new bridge across the Cooper is in and that its possible to drive all the way through now. It's still listed as closed by the Transport SA and Desert Parks people.

Yeah, I forgot to ask him about the Coongie track, but hopefully it should open before April/May. Should be a good year for desert travel after the couple of wet years we've had.

Great to hear Phil,

You have made up my mind for me. Unless we get huge amounts of water Innamincka is closed off like it has a couple of times lately, in April after we finish Madigans we will shoot down through the Crossing.
