Spring will be here soon and the ticks will soon be showing their heads.

Here is a good way to get them off you, your children, or your pets.

Give it a try.
Please forward to anyone with children... Or hunters or dogs, or anyone

who even steps outside in summer!!
A School Nurse has written the info below -- good enough to share --

And it really works!!

I had a paediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick.

This is great, because it works in those places where it's some times difficult

to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc.

Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked

cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own

and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.

This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently),

and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.
Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way.

I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back

and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called

me back to say, "It worked!"

Please pass on. Everyone needs this helpful hint.

G'day Folks

The scrub tick will definately be a big problem in the Pilbara again, one the place drys out enough for people to go and venture around, the grasses are already up to half a metre in height, all perfect for tick transfer to humans.

We use Eucalyptus oil on the tick via the humble cotton bud and within a few minutes the mongrel unlatches its grip and drops off.

Safe travells :

Any message which contains the words "please forward to ...." has a very good chance of containing misinformation. This is probably the case again here.

Well done Bazooka, just shows that we all need to be careful about what we read on the internet. Just because it says it on our screen, doesn't mean it's true. ALWAYS do plenty of research before attempting any of these things. As for the people who send thousands of dollars to Nigeria to get their long lost "inheritance" from a distant Uncle, they deserve everything they get...which is always a lighter bank balance............

Yep. The remedy is from the good ol' U S of A.
I don't know if the ticks in Oz carry the same type of diseases but I know ticks are problem for dogs in the eastern states.

In the US they have Lyme Disease which is spread by ticks, hence the fore mentioned home remedy. The consequences of Lyme Disease are pretty gruesome...Wiki it. I know of someone who caught while in Europe...led to a manic episode.

I don't think we have the same type of ticks of diseases here...but the ticks are still a nuisance. The local remedies and experience seem harmless enough...if you don't have other allergies etc.

I read the same email last year and put detergent and cotton buds in my first aid kit.Two weeks later driving a group of fellow home one member had a tick on her leg .I got out the detergent and cotton bud and went to work on the tick. It did not work.
It became very agitated and took a lot of removing .
The next day the lady's leg had swollen and was very painful.
I did a lot of research with chemists and doctors and the web on various methods of removal and all said the best way to remove a tick is with a pair of tweezers.

By putting any fluid only agitates thetick and it injects more poison into the wound
