Seasons greetings to one and all.
Could probably get an answer to this one from the Garmin site but thought I'd try here first.
When I hook the Garmin up to external power supply from vehicle should I remove the batteries from the unit or doesn't it matter ???
As a general
point of interest I sourced a generic mobile phone holder from Supa Cheap which holds the unit quite neatly and is attached to the dash with double sided tape. Tried it out on the weekend and even with the almost vertical windscreen on the Landie it had no probs locking onto 6 sats.
Amazing ... managed to find my way home and it even told us we were there when we arrived...;-D
Remains to be seen how it handles the ruff stuff though.Fidei defensor

Mine is the older 48, but I never remove the batteries. The power supply will automatically change from internal to external (12v) when it's plugged in. On the main screen is a side bar that indicates "charge" this only show up when the unit is running on internal batteries...
Cheers.

I've actually found that it is better to leave the batteries in.
On really rough trackes the cigarette lighter plug seems to momentarily lose contact ( this is the nature of ciggy plugs) it only takes a fraction of a second without the power an dthe GPS shuts down. with the batteries still inside, it will just switch over to
battery power and not miss a beat.
Can I suggest that you check the battreries regurlalry so that they do not 'go off'.
