Hi Forum,
Does anyone have any information on the opening or otherwise of the Kingoonya Hotel I've googled it and all it seems to suggest is it will be open late January.
I was also interested in whether any one has purchased fuel there with that credit system lately.
Thanks in anticipation for your replies.

Cheers

Graham

Hi Graham,

We travelled through that area 3 weeks ago and nothing much was happening at the Kingoonya Hotel. I also tried to get information about fuel etc prior to going, but could not get through to the number provided. When we went through, it did not look like it was going to reopen any time soon. We filled up at Glendambo and they have all the facilities.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply we are not going for a couple of months but it looks like we may need to top up with fuel at Glendambo, pity the fuel used to be cheaper at Kingoonya and they used to do a great counter meal.

Cheers

Graham,
According to my fuel receipt from a couple of years ago, the self serve fuel outlet is owned by the Maralinga Tjarutja Community (Ceduna).
Its a separate business to the hotel.

Kingoonya should be OK for fuel. I avoid Glendambo if possible - most overpriced fuel in SA, considering its location. I hope the pub continues to operate - nice people running it and it is a great outback pub.

Thanks Phil exactly my sentiments, how come its cheaper any other side of Glendambo? I usually make a point of filling up at out of the way places because I want them to be there next time.

G'day Graham,
Thanks for the update, I thought that may have been what happened.

All good in Berri, even have some cooler weather ATM LOL

Thinking of doing a club trip up your way later in the year. No dates yet as we are also planning a trip to tassie in Sept/Oct too.

I cannot help you with the hotel but a question caught my eye.

Your comment: "I was also interested in whether any one has purchased fuel there with that credit system lately." What credit system?

Hi vk1dx,
Getting the Hotel question sorted I think.
In regards to the fuel system. You put your credit card in a slot enter your credit limit, enter your pin and then fill your tank the amount is then taken from your card, as far as I remember. I think it was done by radio pretty simple its a wonder it isn't about in more places.

Cheers

Do you get a receipt?

I do not like the type that you flash at a sensor. You could over spend very easily. I like a paper trail.

Hi Phil,
Yes you get a receipt. I used it about two years ago and we had no problem with it. You would think it would save drive off's but haven't seen it anywhere else.

How do you just fill it right up?

Just put heaps of money on the "maximum" and stop when you wish. And they only deduct the actual amount. Is that right?

Hi Phil,
Your need to put in your credit limit, we put in a wrong one and it refused to operate. You then put in as little or as much as you like obviously not exceeding your credit limit and a receipt then appears when you hang up the bowser hose.
You'll be needing a trip to Kingoonya to try it shortly. LOL.

Cheers

Personally I am not going near the place. Unless I can get enough fuel elsewhere to do me. I haven't the slightest idea what the card limt is as I very rarely use it.
