Robert,
I had front and rear ARB Diff locks on my GQ and loved them. I did occasionally use just the front but not often. I used the rear more than the front. That said the GU has a really good LSD in the rear so the front lock is more popular in them.
You could do the Cape without the diff lock but if you are doing the Telegraph Track the comfort it offers may be worthwhile.

As Duncs implies , just a great bit of gear and front is the way to go.
We once did a very
well controlled trial of the effectivness of them which clearly demonstrated that front provides most benefit , partly because lockers benefit the axle with least articulation most.
I have 2 4800 GU's one with both , and a new one in which I only fitted the front and kept the good rear LSD.
Difflocks don't work best everywhere though , here in Vic and most
places where there are muddy tracks a set of chains will get you further than a locker.
On my Cape trip , chains and Maxtrax come before a single locker.
