Hey all,
As some of you know i was looking to but a 4wd ute(79 cruiser) but i decided to spend some money on the au ute(changed body to tray, bars and under tray tool box)So now im in the market for a 4wd toy. With no need for a ute now my options are wide open.Is only really me and the g/f,but im sure mates and there women will want to come alone if i buy a wagon. So mostly just camping and general assin about will be its life.I have about $25-30k to spend and like the idea of a 80 series td cruiser, but damn there old with heaps of k`s(do they last forever?) for the money.Next i was thinkin about hilux x-cab 2.7 i have seen 2000 models with 80k for $25,but am i in for a rough ride as i really have no need for a ute.Ideas please?
Thanks

You will get a very nice GQ or a reasonable GU for that sort of money. Govt auctions for a Troopy (great camping) or a Cruiser. Pajero / Jackaroo if there is no real rock climbing stuff but, the list is endless. Get the dealers to visit you and have some fun. rgds.

Hi Stewbag,
I agree with Maverick, for that kind of money you will find some excellent GQ's around. Just make sure its a 4.2 Diesel, and with the change you can install a turbo. Happy huntingI love it when you talk DIRTY !

Stewbag,
I had a similar sort of decision, I went and bought an 86 Rangie for less than $10k, threw some suspension on it, a diff lock in the rear, a uhf radio and a set of BFG muddies on it, I have great fun and if it gets bent or wrecked i don't feel as bad, so far twelve months into this little project all I've had to get extra is a starter motor which crapped out and I have a small dent under the RH rear wheel arch (diff locles fault not mine). I have all the usual Rangie come Leyland issues, oil leaks etc but hey this bus goes anywhere, its' nice to drive and as long as I don't use it all the time the fuel bill is relatively small. You would be impressed with the off road performance and you would keep around $20k out of the thirty. give it a bi of thought. Keep the shiny side up
