Well finally I have some information on getting permits for
Madigan Line. I may be wrong but a few people were given permits last year, but these were while the person in charge of permits was away on leave and are not how it is done now.
To now get a permit from the CLC you have to go through Jol Flemming of Direct4wd in
Alice Springs and he organises it for you. So hopefully finally I will get a permit in the next few days and and we will be ready to leave at the end of next month. (Jol informed that he would have the permit done way before then) so fingers crossed. So hopefully anyone else doing Madigans in the future this will save you the 8 months of phone calls I have had to deal with, I would like to thank Peta from CLC for finally helping me sort this out.
Cheers Madigans here we come, Sorry to say this but stay away QLD rain.

So why are people instructed to go through Jol Flemming (a private organisation) to seek approval from a statutory body?
I can't see why he should be involved,...........commission on each application maybe???.
Sounds a bit sus.

Hi Glenn
Like above but I will not comment online about Jol. Lindsay as far as I am aware only has land above
Lake Caroline and where you come out was still all Crown Land, with no fees what so ever required.
I will give you a call.
Cheers
Stephen

Stephen,
there was a presss release on June 7 last year where the Atnetye people were given title to extra land south of
lake caroline and while I cannot find a copy of the map today from memory it extended down below the
madigan line. Press release is on CLC website but not map showing new area.
I assumed at that time that Lindsay Bookie /Jol Flemming would control access as Lindsay was mentioned in the press release.
I was interested at the time as we did madigan last year as you know.
At least Lindsay is pro tourism and welcomes visitors/access and his fees are not to exhorbinant.
Must admiit I was looking on Jolls website the other day and didnt see anything specific about
madigan line.
Will be most interested in final outcome
cheers
Howard

Hi Howard
Hoping to do Mt Dare, the crossing to Colson and back down it to Mt Dare this year.
Don't think that part was on any such map , and also checked normal sites here and found no permit requirement so far.
P.S. I'll soon be able to have a tag like yours "Resigned to Retirement"

G'Day,
This is Jol Fleming, maybe we should close it all together i don't need the headache of getting permits for those who are are a 'bit sus' why should i pay some one to do the permits, return phone calls and emails tto people that are 'sus'
ive been to get a detour around the Colson sacred area, maybe i should stop that too, you southerners can go somewhere else.
For your information, i am doing my best to make this happen, im dealing with 3 differnt family groups, if you dont like what i do or have done stay your side of the divide. and doing it in my own time,
bleep off Jol

Gday Jol,
I think if you read through most people in these posts have realised that if we have to have permits to go onto certain area's that dealing with one person is far better than getting the run around I have been through over the last 8 months. No disrespect to the CLC but with staff away on leave it did seem to become a bit of no one knew what was happening situation.
Personally I don't have any issue with paying to do crossings, and if the CLC want to give the job to Father Xmas to organise and distribute permits I don't have any issues as long as these area's are kept open for all to see and they don't go the way of some of the National Parks around this country with locked gates.
Cheers Glenn

If you need permits they need to make it easier to get one, otherwise people may not bother.

Jack,
its not that hard
you call up Joel Flemming,
he sends you the permit forms ,you fill them in ,you post them back with your money and a few weeks later you get your permit
in regard your earlier post Ii see no difference in his company organising permits on behalf of Llindsay Bookie (who is the Traditional Owner) to the Aust Nat 4wd club issuing permits for the
Canning Stock Route on behalf of the landholders there.
essentially both put a system iin place, that satisfies the TO's , allows access and ensures permits get issued.
Im sure both groups take their cut but if the locals are accepting of the arrangements we get to go there.
Much better then the No go under any circumstances zones found elsewhere.
regards
Howard

Gday Glenn,
Thanks for passing this info on. Last time I was there was 2006. For "permits" I phoned the good people at
Andado station for permission to be on their property. Then we went cross country skipping the aboriginal land at 3,4 and 5 to link up again at
camp 6; then it was crown land until the Qld border, then a phone call to the very good
ranger at
Birdsville to traverse the national park, and a phone call to David Books at Adria Downs for permission to traverse his property past
Annandale Station and follow Eyre Creek to the QAA Line.
Strikes me there's plenty of others each year who skip phoning the landowners, national parks etc and risk getting their backs up.
Sounds like there's an extra phone call now to Jol!! Hoping to get back out there for a 3rd time, but maybe not until next year.
Cheers
Phil

Gday Phil,
Yes we have had no problems with anyone about getting out there, both
Andado,
Annandale and the
Birdsville Ranger were all very helpfull. I am waiting at the moment for the paperwork from Jol, but don't see this as being to much of an issue. I should also thanks to Stephen L. for supplying contacts etc, and other EO members for their assistance, it sure helps having the EO network when it comes to stuff like this .
Cheers Glenn
