G'day all,

The standard clutch on my GQ td42 coil cab has just started to slip about 15,000kms after the powerup (now 145kw, 450Nm) and i've booked it in to get a Daikin clutch (safari tough??) installed. My problem is that i've searched for reviews/info for these clutches and cannot find much, eg clamping pressure compared to standard. If anyone has fitted one of these to a GQ td42 I would be interested to know how it is performing. Also if anyone knows where to find tech info on these that would be great!

Cheers,
Muzza

Muzza,
Don't know if this will help much, is yours a turbo. how did you achieve the "power up"? I had a standard clutch in my turbo diesel, I went to the turbo clutch as supplied by Nissan, not the genuine Nissan one the aftermarket one they (Nissan) sell if you ask for it, the pressure plate on the turbo clutch has a slightly greater clamping force hence can take more power, I had mine in my turbo 4.2 for 25,000 klms and towed on a beach with it no problem at all, with the servo assisted clutch the extra load was barely noticeable. I don't know how much the Daiken clutch is going to cost you, this could be another option if it's super costly, I paid around the $400 mark I think for the complete kit, I fitted it myself so I saved money there. Keep the shiny side up

Fitted Safari intercooler then set up boost and pump myself. I'm running 14lbs boost with the help of a turbosmart adjustable bleed valve. This helps the boost build earlier. (I'm getting 6lbs@1500rpm) I adjusted the pump to be above Safari but still keeping in mind safe pyro temps...

I run the same unit. Mines running 11 psi boost. Just wondering with your setup with 14 psi boost if you are running a fuel aneroid?

fuel aneroid is my right foot, if I want to see a good deal of black, plant it from about 1000rpm with no boost!

I had the Daikin clutch on my old shortie, and thrashed the s#!* out of it.
It DID lift the front wheels off the ground.
Engine built at west end diesel when i worked there, unfortunately before they had their dyno fitted.
My brother still runs with his daikin with about 50k on the clutch, but will probably give up one day, as its been in too many comps and thrashed!
If you ask a Nissan dealer which heavy duty aftermarket clutch they fit, youll find its the daikin kit.
