Solar Snake Repellers Back to Products

Solar Snake Repellers

About every 55 seconds this model emits a variety of vibrations and sound that change every 2 days. Starting with a single 3 second pulse for 2 days, followed by 3 pulses for 2 days, followed by 5 pulses for 2 days and then reverting back to one pulse to start the rotation all over again. It has anwater proof external On/Off switch and a vastly improved battery compartment The idea behind the changing pulses is to vary the pattern so snakes do not become accustomed to the pulse.
Coverage: Up to a maximum radius of 15 meters (30m Diameter) or about 700 sq meters in all directions. We sugest an overlap of 5m, so each unit should be positioned about 12m apart. The vibration & sound to a snake will be unsettling, create a feeling of uncertainty, an area to be avoided.

I was very sceptical but a mate who lives on a National Park boundary and had many snakes in his yard in the past put a couple of these in about two years ago and since then NO snakes.

While I dont believe in these things, I wouldnt criticise anyone for using one..your
money..your choice. I think most of the "snake anxiety" is hyped..a bit like sharks,
crocs etc. The truth is you are much more likely to be killed by lightning, but we dont
get over exited about that. A little research tells me that no one has died of spiders
since the 1980s in Oz.....you are more likely to be killed by a dune buggy on the beach
than by a shark...less than 2 persons die of snake bite in Oz every year...90% of
those bitten are those that handle snakes regularly, or are trying to kill them.
I have been on a farm all my life..the only snake that struck at me was wounded as I
went about killing it. I have had them crawl over my boots, stepped on them, even
picked them up inadvertantly, & they never struck. I killed many for no good reason
in my younger days, I dont kill them now. Fear seems to overtake logic when such
"killers" are discussed........oldbaz.
I suppose I should add that I refer to King Browns & Blacks & Tigers..not Carpets.

Agree with you 100%
My son keeps a number of snakes and I have come to realize how placid an animal they are
If you don't antagonize them they they will happily go on there way.

Well put. Better to know the snakes are there and take care rather than trust this sort of thing.

I did some research on these things a while ago.

There is a Snake handler forum ( yep there is such a thing!!) that shows a video of a tiger snake next to one of these things without a worry in the world.

Interestingly the seller posted that this was explainable as the repellers don't work with snakes that have been handled, only snakes in the wild. I think that says it all.

The seller's response turned me off more than the video!

I experimented with one of these things and my carpet snake almost a year ago. Snake could not care less.

Snakes do sense vibrations in the ground, hence why it is said to walk heavy footed in the bush. Heavy vibrations can scare them off. Mild, subtle vibrations is a sign of something small moving around, and in the snakes head this could mean dinner.

A pet snake could be use to different vibrations explaining what the seller had to say. Who knows.

Its possible as a pet snake puts up with doors slamming and home theatre subwoofers honking etc
as with all of these kinds of things though very sceptical

I was once a skeptic of these things however after some "research" if you could call it that I am leaning the other way.

These are the cold hard facts.....
I live in remote NW NSW. I had 3 of these devices in my yard, 2 out the back, one out the front and they have been in for 1 full summer and this is their second summer.
About Nov last year, I removed the front one to replace the batteries (just routine maint). The wiring was a bit ordinary so I put it in the jobs list and have not fixed it yet and its sitting on the bench in my shed.
The first summer we had 0 snakes. Since removing the device in the front yard we are up to 2 in (both the front yard) that I have seen.

This could be pure coincidence. might not be? I know for sure that I will be repairing the device which I pulled out and replacing it very soon.

I got mine through a mob called "dustyjacks".

Yep... likely to be coincidence. Definitely not a cold hard fact.

Do the same thing 50 times and then they become a bit colder and harder.

I was always of the understanding that snakes occurred where there was a food source, or in dry times, water.

For example, if you have chooks or birds and feed is allowed to accumulate around the joint, you will get mice, then you get snakes that eat mice. Simple process.

If you have drought conditions and there is no water, snakes will endeavour to find water, and of course if we have leaking taps or water containers placed out for pets, snakes will turn up.

I believe that these snake deterrent appliances are like a lot of things, an example is that kangaroo noise thing you attach to the front of a vehicle. The only people who say they work and those who sell them.
