Hi everyone once more. We have just about finished planning our trip around Queensland We have a couple o questions. can anyone tell us of a
free camp around
Cooktown. 2. Trying to find out about camping at Archer Point. Rang the
Cook Shire Council end of last year and was told that they are changing the arrangements for camping there and to ring back . I rang the other day and no one seemed to know what I was talking about and if I wrote to the council telling them exactly where we wanted to
camp (bit hard to do when you have never been there) they would get back to me. Has anyone else heard anything about this or knows what is happening. Thank you for any help.
Mandy

Mandy B - there are 3 spots to
camp at Archer Point and the latest advice I've had from family up north is that it is still a
free camp. If you plug the following coords into Google Earth you should get a pretty good view of the place.
Beach Site: 15°35'35.71"S 145°19'37.00"E
Open Site (can be bloody windy here): 15°35'47.15"S 145°19'43.80"E
Among the trees (still
beach access but a bit more protected): 15°35'48.05"S 145°19'41.46"E
Hope this helps
Pete

Not free but I am sure you would enjoy Endeavour River Escape which is civilized
bush camping with amenities [not power] with your own private areas. All not more than 100 or so metres from amenities.
Backs onto quite frontage to Endeav. river with fishing and crocs.
Perhaps 12 kms from
Cook town ,past airport.Was $25 p. night ..
Not in any way affiliated but have returned now 4 times and find it most convenient.Management super...
