I paid $35000 last week for 01 std with 58000km from the Uni of Tasmania. Hydro Tasmania vehicels are generally kept in good condition, mainly used for general 4wding. Not like the mainland power station's or mine's. I've worked at them in NSW and find that vehicles in tassie are better.

I wouldnt mind one like yours but $30000 is my limit was going to get a 80 series but all the ones i could find were either petrol or had to many klms.I work at a power station in vic and i defenitely would not buy one of there old ones the coal stuffs everything, so you think the tassie hydro ones would be okay.

thomo,

1. look for rust spots across the top of windscreen under the rubber seal, peel rubber back with knife blade
2. some 100 series have clutch shudder
3. look for excessive grease on the front swivel joints, could mean seals have gone

Early ones: If IFS, front diff self destructs. 5 stud wheels, LOOK at the condition of the studs, known to part company at the most inopportune time (halfway around a corner...)

if the one you are looking at is worse than the 75 series give it a miss, my 00 100 series std diesel(77000 km) has minor shudder when cold, no problem once it warms up for some reason.

When i took it for a drive it was cold and it did shudder i drove up the highway by this time it had fully warmed up the missus drove the car back to the dealer and it didnt shudder for her so it was either the way i was driving it or it might be the same as yours anyway its going to a diesel mechanic friend of mine tommorow so he can go over it

Yes dave i did buy it ,I took it to a friend of mine who owns his own diesel mechanic business he had a look at it from one end to the other took about three hours all he could find was a slight leak from the power steering pump he said it was a common thing with landcruisers take about an hour to fix,We did a compresion check and all cylinders were 540psi, brand new there 550 so it in preety good nick, oil in motor ,box trans case and both diffs was clean and no metal and nice and clean underneath no dints or scrapes so hopefully it will be a good buy.
