Hi All,
Seven weeks out from leaving on our big lap around Australia and we have needed to fork out a couple of grand for repairs on the car (yep I know better do it know rather than on the trip) Then we went to put the mattress back into the camper after having the foam redone to add comfort and we broke the end pole weld that was only re-welded in April. The camper has only been used twice since then. Our trouble is flipping it over and getting the end bar to come up and over in a straight line as when it twists it puts pressure on the end welds or elbows and there goes the pole. We have one rope in the middle to assist us to pull it over. Any ideas of how we can make this a less trouble some fold out? We are going to get a heavier duty pole made now.
Thanks, Carreen

Can you get it back to the makers!! Get them to show you how it should work, if they cant , get them to fix it!! Michael

Hi Michael,
They were the mob who have already fixed it the first time and it lasted twice. Not sure I should take it back!

Gday Carreen
I pull the top of our camper over with a loop of rope that pulls the floor at two corners. Both sides come up and over at the same time with no twist.

Hi, I will have a look to see if we can implement that. It is the top most bar that comes over and forms the end bar with two arms on it. Looks like a capital 'E' without the middle bar. We need a rope on both ends I think but it will need to be sew on maybe. Thanks, Carreen

Hi Carren : We have two ropes to pull over even on each end on our camper . I dont think you can have the poles ridged , they need to flex I.E not welded !!!!!

Hi Nick, I think that is the trouble our rope is in the middle. Carreen

Carreen

We own a trak Shak, and I use a broom to hold the front loops of the camper just open, that lets the air in.
Then I go around the rear of the Camper and gently pop it open.
The broom just slides off the canvas.

Easy as opening an umbrella, and it comes over straight.
No more twisted poles, sheared off bolts, or swearing., just easy as.

I can do a video for you if you like !
but it may take a day or two, as it is raining here ATM

Cheers
Bucky

Something else when packing away.

Leave open at least 1 window, at the rear of the fold, as it will let air in and out, when setting up or packing away.

Cheers again

Hi Bucky, Thanks so much for taking the time to do that for me I appreciate it. I think a combination of using the broom and perhaps a rope tied on either side of the floor through the peg loops with hubby and I on one each may just do it and the penny has just also dropped about the air perhaps sucking the canvas in and holding it down so I will leave the end window open all the way. I am sure 9 months on the road will enable us to sort it out. Just had to laugh when the pole broke though-7 weeks until we leave and the air conditioner in the car broke down, the seals on the car and a universal joint needed replacing, the dog got really sick so 3 grand later I am hoping all will be sweet whilst we are away. Hubby and I keep saying "lucky it happened now!!!!!"
Thanks again Carreen

Hi Carreen :is the top a sar majors own type or a import 12 ft?...... very different !!!
we have a sar major trailer but a import 12 ft top , I have made some changes to the poles/hoops . first three poles are attached to the camper & one loose unlike when it came two attached & two loose, now I can put it up by myself by pulling the two ropes ." always looks so easy on the videos "
Have you spoken to them about it . I guess your from SA.
cheers nick
