G'day Folks

Engonia and Barringun look like being possible stopovers on a trip north.

As far as I can find out so far, the hotel offers caravan facilities at Engonia, and there is a rest stop at Barringun.

We've been through both places previously, but not stopped. From memory the rest stop at Barringun looked pretty basic, and a look on Google Earth confirms that.

Can anyone offer any comment on either place? We're travelling from Macquarie Marshes on the day, and Bourke is a stop too soon, and Cunnamulla may be a stop too far.

Cheers
John

There is a basic rest area @ Sth Engonia
29 35 19.5S 145 50 31.4E

We have stopped there overnight several times without any problems.
As said it is basic without any facilities.

Just be carefull if it is wet.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Ah Phil

You can't expect Coopers Sparkling Ale to be on tap everywhere.

The country side has changed dramatically in the way of colour since the google earth pics were taken. It is very green out here at the moment. Barringun has very little and Engonnia doesn't have a great deal more.
There is a commercial camping area at Barringun if the Engonnia locals concern you. And make sure you drop into the pub and see Mary at Barringun, a character in every sense of the word.

Thanks Tim,

I wasn't aware that there might be a need to be concerned about the locals at Engonia.

By "commercial camping area", I assume you mean there is a cost involved (not that that is a concern). I remember when searching Barringun in 2010 that there was mention of 'cabins' and meals there, but when we went passed through it all looked a bit forlon. It had also been raining then (April) and the whole rest area looked fairly muddy. Searching now suggests only a rest area. Are there toilets?

The pub sounds inviting.

Cheers

As you go north through the town, the pub is on your left and just before the border there is a "caravan park" for a better term on the right. I have never gone in there but I have seen plenty of people stopping there, I think there might be a half baked truck stop in there as well. So yeah it is a commercial park rather then just s dedicated camping reserve.

I wasn't suggesting you should be concerned about Enongonnia, some one mentioned the locals above, there is a mission there.
