If you travel to "see" and "experience" rather than tick off the "been there" list, then you'll enjoy this book. Millions of people go to the
Kimberley and because of its NW tropical position most can only visit during the Dry Season. Many people judge the
Kimberley on that experience without fully understanding the uniqueness of this region and without any real understanding of the ecological framework that makes it so special. The author’s intent with this book is to expand your perception of nature and gain a better understanding of what you will see. I see this as a quality book on the
Kimberley region that is relevant to travellers - includes description of the seasons, flora, bird watching, stargazing, raptors, fire, snakes, crocodile attaches and why they occur, plants that eat fish, flying foxes, tropical revolving storms, things that itch, geology, plant names and meanings, and much more. Bit of a cliché comment here, but I found it “not too heavy, not too light, but just right”. A lovely gift, or valuable pre-trip reading for yourself.
