Sorry I may have missed it but is there a way of having the next map loaded on the computer without having to look at the legend for the adjoining map name and then having to load it.

May be simple if possible but just can't find it

Thanks in advance

I just use the little navigator buttons (arrows) to load the next sequential map adjacent to the current in accordance with the arrow (left right up down) selected.

There is no need to manually select the nextmap!

Am I off target and teaching you to suck eggs? The automatic scrolling feature is a future enhancement according to Oziexplorer blurbs.

Russel has given you the arrow buttons, but he has neglected to mention the little red X. Click on it and the arrow buttons will take you to the adjacent map in the current folder. Save you having to select it from a long list.Get out there & have Fun!!!

I am also still on the Ozi learning curve.

Whenb I click on the arrows I get a selection of maps to choose from. How do I know which is which? I have the datum set at WGS 84.

Cheers,Willem

Willem, you could go off the series number that would help a little, but apart from that I think that you just need to know, the map name, the datum won't be important.

I'll fire up the laptop and have a look at how I do it.

okay, as pluto has said, if you lock the search into only the current folder (and that folder is the AUSLIG CD for example, then, in most cases you will only recieve one adjacent map (not counting the index map).

The exception to this would be if there is a 'special map' ie a map that doesn't fit into the normal map sheet series, but that would be pretty easy to distinguish.

If you have scanned your own maps of an area, be sure to place each one in a seperate folder, or ensure that each one has a very easily distinguishable name (I've done the latter). Thatsaid, the AUSLIG sheets are all read from the CD, so they are not a problem anyway.

Dave, thanks for your response..............I have Natmap Raster 250K maps loaded.

I have loaded si54.01. Now I go to and click on the red x and click on the arrow to the left i.e. west A box appears with sh53.16, si53.04 and Worldmap listed. So I have selected the si53.04 and that is the right one.

If I want to go south then three maps beginning with si are listed, Which one? Numbers are not necessarily in sequence.

If I want to go north then four maps are listed beginning with sh. Which one?

Hope you can help this poor old confused fella :-)

Cheers,

Willem

Willem if you create a folder within your maps folder and store your Raster 250K map files in it, you will eliminate the world map coming up when you lock the search (red X). No pop up window listing maps will appear and Ozi will automatically open the adjacent map. A little bit of folder management will speed up maps searches.

I understand your theory pluto, but wouldn't that neccesitate copying the map files from the CD onto the hard drive, or do you think that there would be a way of using shortcuts perhaps.

I like the idea, but am not willing to copy the maps to the HArd drive, I guess just copying the most used ones would be an option.

But how does willem solve the problem of multiple series maps coming up, I had thought that the Auslig and Natmap CDs were the same, obviously not, could it be that the NAtmap images have an overlap (maybe the map border).??

Hi Dave,

No it doesn't require you to copy the map images from the CD. The OziExplorer map calibration files (the ones with the .map extensions) are the ones you need to manage. Having them in sets in their own folders makes the map searches much easier and quicker.

Copying the map images to the HD is not essential but it does speed up their loading. If you decide to do this, you will have to change the change the pathname in the corresponding map calibration files. That can be done with the following menu selection:

File > Change Image File Name, Path & Drive > Change Image File Path for All Maps in Selected Folder

The last selection is another reason for allocating a folder to each set of maps. It alows you to change the path in every map calibration file in the specified folder. So one CD to Hard disk... One fix for all of the Calibration files.

As for Natmap and Auslig. They are different releases of the same series of maps. If you have a look at the Australian page on http://www.oziexplorer.com/, you will find the map Calibration files for all of the different releases (5 in all).

So is this a simple answer to a simple question????Get out there & have Fun!!!

G'day Pluto,

If you could please explain how I create a separate folder within the maps folder, I would appreciate it.I am a little slow in translating what and how to do things.
I have looked in My Computer and I have the Raster250K folder there. Inside that folder is CD1 and CD2.
Cheers,
Willem

Willem,

It's not surprising the Raster 250K map files are in folders for each CD, as that is the way Des Newman configures the install packages.

If you want to create additional folders, the easiest way is to use Windows Explorer. From your desktop, open My Computer, navigate to your maps folder (probably C:\oziexplorer\maps) and select from the menu: File > New > Folder.

Hope this helpsGet out there & have Fun!!!

The latest mosaic version of the Auslig CD will give you continuous coverage so you aren't ever aware of separate maps.Bob

Willem,

I have used OziExplorer extensively as a moving map display in my fourbie. I also use it at my desk in trip planning.
Two comments:
1. When in Moving Map mode, OziExplorer automatically loads the appropriate map when you travel off the current map.
2. At the desk and using the arrow buttons at the top of the screen, OziExplorer will show all maps it nows about that cover the area immediately adjacent to to the current map VIEW. If your View is wholly within the map and not showing white space beyond the edge of the map, there should be only one Auslig map, but possibly others (worldmap etc.) for you to choose from. For example, if you are on SI5401 and your view window is positioned IN the map, then clicking the West arrow should show you SI4304, South SI5405, East SI5402 and North SH5413. (The red X simply limits the maps OziExplorer "knows about" to those in the same folder as the current map.)
Hope this helps.

Barry

Thanks Barry but no my maps are loaded as stated before in this thread. I have not used moving maps yet as I have no need for them at present. I normally print the maps out for the area I wish to visit and then refer to my laptop if I need to. Tomorrow I will try what Pluto advised.
Cheers,
Willem
