Hi all. I've got an old hilux (1984 2.4 diesel) and she's getting a little bit long in the tooth. I just did the body up and I was thinking about options for repowering it. Does anybody have any suggestions. I would like to stay with diesel cause of fuel costs and reliability but what other mods would I have to do?

Ta Brent

Few options out there, from 13bt from a middy cruiser to a new 3 litre t/d prado type motor. The 2.8 will fit straight in but these did have some problems with crank bearings. then there is a 2lt jap motor.depends what you want to pay and how much you want/can do yourself.

13bt motor makes

It is a direct injected diesel aswell, so will be economical as anything.

Brent if your going to keep it why not get the original done up and a turbo added.AXT have a good name .Engine swaps cost heaps and take forever to completely get the bugs out and dont even think about resale value.

blulux.
Please sell it and buy what you realy want. Dont kid yourself that you can repower an old lux and make it better you will find many problems and end up spending more than a new vehicle price and have very low resale value, I know, I have done several for customers and they all end up wishing they had purchased a new ute, cheaper in the end.
