Note to self, Don't attempt deep-water crossing with a near-empty fuel tank !

If I was going to do that crossing I'd rather be in my old 80 than my new 200.

That is truly remarkable.
They do say that the 80 was the last of the best cruisers, this just confirms it.
What a machine!

We had the back floating a bit in the 100 until we fitted it out with drawers filled with cooking, tools and recovery gear in one and the "kitchen in the other. Add a fridge, roof rack and roof top tent and she sits down quite nicely. Even with the long range tank nearly empty.
I think he expected it the way he just continued. I bet he doesn't have any floor mats in it if that is the case.
A good reminder to us all. The eldest sons pootrool even floated a bit when empty inside and the tank low.
Good video.

Gday...
"unstoppable Toyota" or not .... I reckon that whacker broke at least half of the basic rules of a water crossing. He had more good luck than sense.
And as for engaging reverse, I'd love to know how long the clutch lasted after that day's stupidity.
cheers
John

Yeah most of the toyota drivers on the
forum seem to be praising this guy up when he is an absolute dipstick - the typical sort of person who is getting us banned from areas we used to go into.
It could have just as easily gone oh so wrong - there was no driving skill involved - just a lot of luck. I wonder how much it cost to repair that vehicle - it would have started playing up a couple of weeks after.

Got to agree guys, this is actually the top of lake lyal, I have driven my boat over this spot. A family come to grief here last year mid winter. father drowned the 4by, everyone was soaked, only my mate who was fishing nearby in his boat heard their screams their would have been a serious case of hyperthermia.
Mind you the mate sit up the front of the boat soaking wet while he was doing 60ks down the lake. had the kids laying on the floor to minmise wind chill.
Cheers pete

The spare under the back also makes a floatation device.
