Comment: Buying a 4WD

Just bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Surprisingly inexpensive with the US dollar being so low and the current state of US manufacturing. Much impressed with the whole package. Got he Quadrilift suspension which means a ground clearance of 275mm when needed but a highway clearance of 160mm - well worth the investment!
Certainly one to have a look at and compare!

and no commercial affilliation of course...just had to ask because if you said it in a corny radio presenters voice it would have sounded exactly like an ad..

G'day Bob. As you say a well featured surprisingly good value vehicle although my experiene has shown while the initial purchse price of the Jeep is a bargin, the ongoing costs particually when the warrenty runs out can be excessive.
Good luck & happy motoring. Cheers Craig.......

Thanks Craig. Hope that this one might be the exception. The WK is meant to be quite a different beast to its predecessors. Time alone will tell.

Hi Capn Bob . Let us know your progress a friend of mine is thinking down the jeep way. Coming from a 05 3lt patrol. He done his homework on the jeep looks to be very capable 4wdrive. And all the power figures look impressive. What motor option did you go for ? He was thinking the v6 diesel. Just would like to know someone’s thoughts .

V6 petrol has just about the same consumption figures as the diesel. It's the one that the reviews are saying is really great and it's also the one that has been chosen by Maserati to power their new SUV (with a bit of tricking up, I'll bet!)
Very happy with the performance of my V6 petrol. Have only just had it for about 4 weeks and haven't been able to do anything serious in the bush yet - next major trip in a few weeks time.

They are certainly a smart looking car.
Pictures don't do it justice....they look small.
Friend has a 2011 diesel and it's quite big. He has been super happy. He can even drop the front suspension form normal height while cruising, and his economy at 110 kph drops from 8.5 to 7.6 lp 100.
Only problem he has had was a burning smell.....some stickers were not removed from the exhaust.
Value for money is sensational.
