I booked about 4 months ahead as I only had a small window I could do the charter on. Also after talking to them about The affect the moon stage and tides have on fish biting I wanted to booked the charter the right time for the best chance to catch fish. There were people camped near us that bookedthe charter the week after us while they were there and a couple of others shortly after that.
You could ring them and have a chat about the time you'll be up there and best time to fish, then book a bit closer but the longer you wait the more risk of missing the best bite. I actually moved my time for the charter forward a week on their advice for best bite and so glad I did. Fishing up to that point was unreal. The week after was a lot quieter on the bites.
You don't need a charter to catch good fish in
cape york. This is a video of a shark we caught off the beach at
punsand bay on a 100pnd handline.
We all got some really big fish off the jetty at
seisia an wiepa, including 5 foot mackerall, sharks, queenfish in the cast net and gropers.
Off
weipa we got smashed on tarpon, no good to eat but great fun to catch.
