Fishing Charters Cape York

Hello everyone! Just wondering if anyone knows of and good fishing charters that offer day trips anywhere from cooktown right up to the tip? Also has anyone done a tour of Thursday Island from the tip and how long did it take?

Hi Matthew. Well worth the trip to Thursday Island. Trip takes about an hour. There are several trip you can do when you arrive. We booked the coach tour of the highlights and then Horn island. The coach tour around T.I. very interesting, then a trip over to Horn Island. Tour of Horn, by mini bus with lunch thrown in at the resort. then return to Seisia. Great day out, or you can say over night and see more. Well worth the money

This was caught on John Charlton's boat by our sons. It took ages and they had to swap over half way through. 1.2M GT!!!!

I have a habit of booking way ahead. We booked on 29th April 2010 for a day fishing on 12th August, 2010.

That may be a bit too much but I will not miss anything again. It happened at another place at another time. No problems with John. I also had a large itinerary to book for so I started way ahead.

Matthew,
we had tried to get a charter in weipa but locals there were booked out weeks in advance so rang Seisa and could have got in in 3 days but we booked for a week later to give us more time driving up.
that was in july 2008
cheers

Will also recommend Charltons out of Seisia. Both fishing and the tour to TI and Horn Island, great day out.
Caught a 23 kilo GT on the tour to Thursday Island.

Hi Matthew, We went with Cape york custome sports fishing charters. We had a ball. These guys know when and where the fish bite. Here is a video of some of the fish we caught.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUBk7FB6gWY
Their website is:

Highly reccomended for a great day fishing. Ask them when is the best time to fish for your plans as the moon and tides can affect the fishing up there big time.
Josh

I booked about 4 months ahead as I only had a small window I could do the charter on. Also after talking to them about The affect the moon stage and tides have on fish biting I wanted to booked the charter the right time for the best chance to catch fish. There were people camped near us that bookedthe charter the week after us while they were there and a couple of others shortly after that.
You could ring them and have a chat about the time you'll be up there and best time to fish, then book a bit closer but the longer you wait the more risk of missing the best bite. I actually moved my time for the charter forward a week on their advice for best bite and so glad I did. Fishing up to that point was unreal. The week after was a lot quieter on the bites.

You don't need a charter to catch good fish in cape york. This is a video of a shark we caught off the beach at punsand bay on a 100pnd handline.

We all got some really big fish off the jetty at seisia an wiepa, including 5 foot mackerall, sharks, queenfish in the cast net and gropers.
Off weipa we got smashed on tarpon, no good to eat but great fun to catch.
