I would say it depends how big the boats was.A good place I found for launching a boat was on the
western side at a place called Wathuma creek "spelling" west of orchard beach. This was a few years ago but has something you might call a boat ramp ? but depends on the tide.
I saw a guy launch what was about a 12foot tinie and he came back after a few hours with the biggest flathead you have ever seen and 4-5 very nice size mud crabs.
the track from Orchard beach is quite easy but can be very sandy at times.
If you dont mind running the waves then waddy point seem to be where there are lots of bigger boats.

ive taken my 12ft quintrex several times. first 2 to wathumba by trailer with fuel and motor in vehicle, so towing a light trailer. tracks can be very difficult due to roughness and loose sand. now i take it on my roof last 2 trips to sandy cape.
depending on your boat size and experience going north of indian head can be a challenge, it can be done the boats at waddy are over 20 ft but they use tractors.
going to kingfisher or moon point by barge and fishing the west coast would be a good option limited east coast waddy only place to launch on east coast.
wathumba a top spot but all west coast in warmer months have sand flies.
bigger boats to wathumba come from hervey bay by water with vehicle bringing extra supplies.
not knowing the size of your boat i hope this helps.

in basic terms, I wouldn't bother.

You can only use it on the Western Side, unless its a big one, why not work out where you would like to camp, launch the boat from Hervey Bay, Inskip or Maaroom, and get the 4by to meet you there.

I live in Hervey Bay, this is a very popular way of getting your boat over for some quiet fishing and enjoying the straits.

Dave.. I am thinking of going to Inskip for two weeks in Feb. What are the drawbacks up there at that time eg sandflies, mozzies etc?slavekitten.jpg

I've got to say that I have never really had a problem with sandflies at Inskip, I know that others have, only real drawback is the heat, and no freshwater to cool off in.

Have Fun!

Dave .. thanks for that. We normally go to either Straddie/ Moreton but thought it would be good for a change. Also good to get away from the S-E winds. The council have put in fresh water taps on the way into Rainbow so I guess it is just a matter of filling up some Jerry cans and having a tub with those. We had in mind to camp on the Easterley side, down from the Barge landing area.Jack at sleep
