While waiting for my patrol to be fixed I went and had a look at the new patrol as we are looking at updating. We are looking for a auto so my wife can share the driving while travelling. To my surprise the 2012 patrol 3lt auto only has a towing capacity of only 2500kg and the manual dropped to 3200kg yet a Pathfinder has a 3000kg towing capacity for manual or auto.

Pathfinder only has 2.5ltr Engine. That will make a little engine work very hard. Bob

Have just got rid of mine (2009) due to excessive fuel usage - common, common rail issue apparently, weak clutch - replaced @ 29K and a really bad customer focus. Hopefully the grass is greener on the other side after over 20 years owning Patrols. Was waiting for the bigger engine that is coming soon :-)

Don't get me started about Nissan problems and customer service but in saying that not sure but I find most car makers have similar lack of service and backup

I bought my GU 3.0TD Patrol new and was dismayed at just how bad Nissan customer service was - and thats from a customer buying new and getting dealer servicing. In comparison we also had a Hyundai Trajet at the time and the customer service difference was like night and day - I actually wanted to buy another Hyundai simply because of how well they looked after the customer.

When the time came to replace my Nissan, I went Toyota and have been very pleasantly suprised at just how good the Toyota customer service is. The Hyundai got replaced with a Mazda (nothing we wanted in the Hyundai range) and the Mazda level of customer service has been indifferent, not great but not bad either.

But Nissan was so bad that a Nissan vehicle will never darken my driveway again - and I tell anyone who ever asks advice about vehicles. YMMV

Cheers

I get the impression that Nissan are trying to get out of the car industry by giving bad service and inferior goods

I was shocked to find that direcety after the clutch & 30,000 service was done($2600.00 later) that my air compressor turned on when I plugged an air mattress pump into one of the back sockets. Investigation revealed that they forgot to put all of the battery connections back on to the posts including the main feed coming from the alternator via the Redarc - just glad I found it before it found the chassis / earth.

I am heartened by the good comment regarding Toyota service, I am in the customer service industry and am appalled by how some of these big companies behave, it does give me some motivation to ensure that my clients don't suffer a similar fate.

The Patrol has virtually stayed the same since it was originally released over a decade ago. Still got the same crap auto box and the air conditioning controls that they stole from the original Datsun Bluebird.

Carl , its a pity your in QLD , if you drove my 4800 Patrol , or come to think of it do what Daza has done then you might feel that there is a better approach to updating.

Gee! i didnt know you could still buy a Patrol manual... it's strange thinking by manufacturers that they seem to know whats best for the customer!! Michael

Michael, you're right about manufacturers and what they build. Take the Toyota current range. Why would you have an auto only option for the 200 series and manual only for the 7x series when the greatest proportion of 7x series go to mining, tradesman, hire, farming, geologists etc. I would have thought autos would have been the best choice for a work vehicle. The only reason I could think of was that the twin turbo V8 diesel had too much grunt for the current manual box.

You got it Pops, the 200 has 650Nm while the 7x series has 420Nm. Can you imagine the size of a clutch needed for 650Nm with the way the average 200 driver would use it?

Cheers
