OK having read through the last
forum layout thread that has been going on. I noticed something that I was a good idea and something I had just not done. So this morning when I got to work I decided I would implement a colour coding system for unread threads, replies and follow-ups. This coding is based on your last login time and will highlight all threads, replies and follow-ups that have been received since your last login time.
I have held the colour coding to be tones of the already used colours so see what you think. Already I can see it is a great idea and basically eliminates the requirement to use the
My Home updates since last login as they are now already highlighted.
It does make accessing the new data much quicker and it is now easy to find that follow-up that has appeared further up the list. Your comments in action.
Enjoy
David

Thanks for the work David.
I have a question on pop ups. Can I ask now or is it OT?

Hi David,
A great improvement and makes navigation much easier. Assume that the colour coding is based on actual log in time (vice site visits if already logged in)? Reason I ask is that I tend to stay logged in when I navigate away from the ExporOz site.
Is instituting this approach (based on visit vice actual login) feasible or all too difficult?
Good step nonetheless.
Cheers,
Matt.

Matt,
It is based on login & session time. So when you first connect your last login time is setup then as you move around the last login does not change. If you navigate away (and stay away for at least 20 mins) or close your browser your session will terminate and when you reconnect it will all start again.
If you open the site and keep coming back within the 20 min window the last login will not update. So it is really based on visit provided you stay away for 20 mins.
NOTE: If you are a windows user and subscribe to RSS feeds and use IE, your session may never expire dependant on how opten you refresh the RSS feed via the feed settings. It should not be an issue but if you are using a lot of RSS and IE then just
check out what happens.

Thanks David. 20 minutes a good time, so should work
well - great. Don't use RSS feeds on this computer (and not IE), so look forward to seeing how it works. Really good improvement.
Cheers,
Matt.

The colour coding is a great idea, but
the black on blue is OK, the black on peach is OK, but black on
grey suffers.
The eye does not see black on
grey anywhere near as
well as the others....contrast suffers....people with certain vision issues may find it not so good and it will also suffer under certain lighting situations.
Pick another colour appart from
grey.......
cheers

Black on
grey all I see is dark grey/light
grey and have no idea which is meant to represent which? Dark means already read? and light means to be read?
Oh dear more to catch up with :))

Its ok Effi, have a bit of a look around. Log off then come back after 20 mins. The new comments are shaded. You will see. Its a great idea.

Thanks for warning us. I spent an hour trying to work out what I had done to get all these different colours on the screen. :)

Great improvement thanks :)
Only a minor thing (and don't think I am ungreatful) but can the shading on the
orange follow-up be one shade darker? The blue shading shows up well but the
orange shading is hard to see the difference.
Cheers
