Just back from a quick few days out to Dunns Swamp and Newnes Camping area in Wollimbi Nat Park , still pretty quite but think they will be chockers next week...Sad to see that there was not one wombat out at Newnes Camping area, hope it was just the time of year....BUT main reason for post , we were walking through the rock formations at Dunns Swamp , came around the corner of one big boulder and WHOOOOO....dont know who got the biggest fright , Me....or the young mum squating for a piddle...the things you see when you dont have your camera...

Possibly the wombat population is still recovering
from being used as speed bumps by the local RFS
a case that ended up in court.

a slap on the wrist for that

The local wedgetailed eagle population around the Dunns Swamp
area is also struggling to recover after being ravaged
by a misguided goatfarmer who wiped out 10 or so
in the most horrific manner.

a slap on the wrist for that too.
(actually a $2,000 fine, cause everyone said he was a nice chap,
so they didn't impose the possible $50,000 fines for each bird or prison term
allowed.)

go figure

getting off my soapbox now

Dunns Swamp is such a great spot
actually just over the hill from our block
shown in the photo here

and if you have never driven through the Capertee Valley
on your way to or from it you should do it before they
completly seal all the road.
