Hi all

Just a quick question - what time frame am I looking at to get from Innamincka to Birdsville via Walkers Crossing? Will be doing about 'taking it easy enjoying the scenery' as far as speed goes...

Hi Stefandsal

It is possible to do the drive comfortably in 1 day. I am not sure of the official status of Walkers Crossing for the general Public, but it has been back in action for workers up that way for quite some time. There has even been a large crossing constructed for large heavy machinery - this is 100% correct from one of the locals that I know that works up in Moomba.

Cheers

Hi Bruce and Di

Like I said in my reply above, I was not sure of the official side of the track being open. The crossing has been closed for around 2 years after being washed away with the massive flood waters of 2009/2010.

It has been repaired and was being used by SANTOS workers for some time, but have not heard if any water has reached the area again.

Cheers

Same here. Our son who works up there also said that it is closed to the public.

Would like to do Walkers Crossing around 6th April (Easter Period) but will check at Innaminka - went through 10 years ago and did the trip nicely in a day with lunch at the Bridge- nice trip . If you are planning the same period of time I would like to have another vehicle with me. twebb@sedgman.com.au - thanks

Thanks for the replies. I'll be (hoping) to head that way for the races at Birdsville this year. Coming from the Sunny Coast & this time heading via Thargomindah, Innamincka, Walkers Crossing & then Birdsville . Hopefully it's a bit drier by then...
