Errol, (and Greg)

I have to apologise. The lack of a calibratable index map for this map set in getting frustrating.

I'm sure there is a suitable index map, that can be calibrated in OziExplorer and I would appreciate any help in finding one.

Pluto, thanks for buying my CD, and for the comments regarding the need for an Index Map...maybe I should include one on future editions. The Coverage Plan included on the CD is not for use as an Index Map (it is in PDF format and there is no calibration file) so I can understand your comment that it is "Cr*p"..though I would probably have said "it was not suitable or may intended use". Anyway..please email me direct (my email address is on th CD) and I will solve your problem (I hope)..this includes anyone else who needs an Index Map. I dont actually have a suitable index map at this stage (copyright issues must be considerd) but will get on the job right now.

Cheers

Greg,

Just following up on my personal email to you. It is probably time to discuss the features that make a good index map.

To date index maps supplied with raster maps on CD have been prepared for printing and use in hard copy. They do not take into account the features available in applications such as OziExplorer. The index maps that come with Raster 250K and Perth Street Express have the same fault.

The frames representing the map boundaries tend to confuse the image by conflicting with Ozi's own map boundaries, but they can be ignored, if the additional geographical detail is sufficient to locate major features and the extent of the index map neatly covers the extent of the map set. In the case of Raster 50K, this would include Cervantes in the North to Cape Arid in the East.

I have found one map on the web that almost suited, but after some croping and rescaling to suit OziExplorer, the detail on the map was all but useless. Additionally, considering it was originally poorly scanned wall map, it probably shouldn't have been on the web in the first place. As you rightly point out Copyright should always be respected.

Again, I apologise if I have caused any offence and look forward to seeing an improved Raster 50K in the near future.

Go to Dola and ask for one of their index maps.

Run it through a scanner and save it onto your drive with Graphic Converter in whatever format you want.

For the Raster 250 series I cut the dola map into 3, North Middle South and made 3 index maps. The 1:50,000 series are on there also.

Worked for me and it was free too.

OK - I have found what I think to be a suitable OziExplorer index map..have got it calibrated and ready to go. Its shows all major towns, roads rivers etc. Hope it suits most peoples requirements..but you cant please everyone. It will be on all CD's produced from no on..but if you have a copy of my CD and you need an index map email me your address and I will post you a copy (file is too big for me to have to email around the place).

My email is on the CD

Cheers
