What does the new site colour coding mean?

It may be glaringly obvious to many but I am curious as to what is the intention of the new
grey colour coding on the
forum. Some are dark and some are coloured light
grey. I initially thought the light
grey may indicate threads that I had viewed, and thought no more about it, but as I look today, there are threads I have not viewed that are light
grey.
The world is a curious place.
