There is quite a bit of difference - the difference is in the resolution between the two

Thanks for the comparison. I can see the difference but you need to click on each to zoom in.
Although I must say I have an ipad 2 and my raster maps look better than what they are appearing in your photo. But I do admit they would look better with a retina display.

That depends on the raster map. But to be fair, the iPad 2 is not too shabby, it's just the iPad 3's retina screen is another few leaps above that :D.

Huge difference MUD, nice comparisons. Yeah got my Ipad 3 last week, loving the screen and have been shooting 1080P on a Canon camera and playing it on the Ipad, looks amazing, photos too come to life. I use Memory Map and Navionics and everything is so much sharper. It's only going to get better as more apps are re-jigged to output 2048x1536.

Yeah, i use it for photography. Got the camera connection kit & paired with iPhoto, it's just awesome.
The colours are spot on too.
