will i need a desert pass to drive up the
birdsville and then down the strzelecki tracks?

The short answer in "No"
If you intend to stay some time at
Innamincka, you will need to have a Desert Parks Pass, or you can buy permits up there for short stays.
Your Desert Parks Pass is only valid for South Australia, and again, you can still head out into the Simpson and not require a pass, as long as you do not enter into South Australia from
Poeppel Corner.
