GD,
I had a 92 3.0 L Paj and had no problemos with GRR as it was "off the showroom floor". I'd buy an extra spare wheel and tyre though. UHF is all you need.Bob

Depends on whether you want to dot the eyes and cross the tees. People who drive for hours on end and then enter a
creek that is of a depth over the axle are either lucky or don't realise they have some
water mixed in with the oil in their diff and over time it will cause harm.
When a hot diff cools suddenly in
water so too does the air inside it. The breather allows air to pass in and out of the diff according to the conditions inside it. If you want to be really safe then put a seperate breather on each diff and run the tube to the highest point in the engine bay and attach a ryco fuel filter to each.
To err on the side of caution is never a mistake but to fill your diff with
water would be.
How lucky do you feel.

Yep - do the breathers - its all investment in your remote travel and won't take long at all. And while you are under there, you can check for the tightness of some of those factory nuts and bolts....such as the ones around the diff ! Imagine the hammering they get on rough roads such as the Gibb. Re the radios, what sort is the ssb - CB ? If so, might be of little use - check out the UHF repeaters in that area for your other radio - they might get you the distance required. Best to assume a worst case scenario in planning remote travel, such as - "broken down, and nobody seems to be using this so-called busy road (might be closed at one end due to rain etc. - with nobody coming by, what do you do ?). My choice is to rely on long distance HF, UHF and ssb 27 meg in that order. Others choose satellite...... I think UHF only is a bit fickle, buts that's just me.

No mention here of an Epirb. They will work anywhere & are about $200 with a ten year battery life. Only to be used for REAL emergencies of course and heaps cheaper than a sat phone etc & can be carried on walks or in a boat.

Depends on what time of year & how wet the wet was I did the Gibb in late April and all the crossings were
well down except for the King Edward on the way to Mitchel platue which was about 75cm- close to the top of my Landcruser campervans diff breathers. Think of it this way it is along way to go to have to turn back also exra tyres are essential I wrecked 2 brand newies

Greendog....Re qu for me - don't have
snorkel yet - I'm only going to fit one when I know I'm going to the
places that need one - heard too much comment on this
forum re drumming and rattling installations to get one on spec.... may never need it. Have not bee to the far north yet. Re the breathers, you can get small diam tube and fittings (tee's, elbows, clamps etc) from good auto type stores. I took the rear breather right up into a rear roof pillar. Joined the gearbox and front diff breathers with a tee and then took that up to the very top of the firewall - glue a lawn mower air filter onto the end so it can't suck any dust in. I remember asking the dealer where the gearbox breather was - think they said there wasn't one - there was of course, but hard to get to. Have some holiday fun.Why I am here looking at this screen ?
