Hi all
A mate has a 1999 Jimny Extreme for sale. It was his misser's car since new. Any advice what to look out for?
I liked it because the absence of air bag give me more leeway to do things for off road.
Cheers
Wil

There are numerous 100's of trucks offroad with airbags, and no problems.... Why would that be an issue?

Hi All
The Extreme has a wider track foot print and a few other nice looking enhancements. Apart from that, it is rather standard. Didn't want the air bags cause the mods to front bumper can be more aggressive without needing Air bag compatable bars which could be limited (expansive) and the aggressive usage I will be using it for..(also like to play around with my welder & stuff..) Will pull carpet and plastic bumpers off straight away if acquired..throw some mud rubber on for a starter.
It has 60,000km on the clock and hasn't seen too much off roading. Asking about $8500 to 9000. More a wagon to take their 2 dogs up to their batch. But more concern with things to look out for in the drive train etc.
Cheers

You may find your upgrade optons are limited for the Jimny in terms of suspension and the like. The coils/shocks are already pretty close to your rims and tyres, and with increased articulation and diameter you may have some severe clearance probs and/or tyre scrub radius issues (????registerable/"engineerable"). Probably better to go with a Sierra (leaf sprung) if you really wnt to go hardcore.

Thanks for the advice Gary.
Leaf sprung Sierras in good order are really had to come by these days.

Had a good look at it today and was surprised to see the extreme has quite a few more extras: AIR BAG! ABS! left fender mirror, wide alloys, Air cond..
Damm I was wrong with the air bags..
Couldn't test drive it until the 5th Jan as they have gone away.
Any more good advice? e.g is tyre wear as bad as Grand Vitara? etc

Regards

A left fender mirror?? Sure this aint an import?

No worries with lifting the jimny though.

4 inches and some 31's make it a very capable suzy.

Hi Goodsy
Positive it isn't an import. Just bells & whistles on the extreme model.
The 4" lift, does it involve blocks & suspension combo?
Have you seen snorkle kit for the Jimny?

Have not seen the Jimny in person so don't know much about the lift.

There is not snorkel available for the Jimny yet. Safari anre working on one though.
Give them a bell. It might hurry them up a bit.
