steve,
Be careful of "with the works", usually means bush-bashed, or been-round-Australia. Decide with accessories are, 1/ Must haves, 2/ Expensive and 3/ Not likely to be fitted by someone who is using the vehicle with little regard, eg, mining, government etc.
Try the car search pages on ninemsn, yahoo etc. Found
mine there and got a good deal to boot,
Good Luck

Just trying to take the "look at all the goodies" reaction out of the equation, easy to be drawn in. Would you buy an ex-mining vehicle??????

Try www.carsales.com.au and/or
http://www.autotrader.com.au/.
Autotrader is the automotive arm of Trading Post.
I have sold two vehicles through "Carsales" and one through TradingPost/Autotrader". Also handy for giving you an idea on price/condition etc.

Steve,
I think your hopes to get $18-19'000 for your 97 explorer are a bit high, here in
adelaide 2nd hand Explorer's sell for $15'000 in yards, and 80 series sell for around $22'000 - $25'000 (ball
park) but I've found that the best place to look is the trading post on line www.tradingpost.com.au, you can search for cars by class, $ range, make, model and either trader only or private seller adds.
check it out may help you find something.

Before you buy a naturally aspired diesel you should take it for a run up the blue mountains, and up the freeway towards
newcastle.
After you return, make your decision. If its not turbo'd you may decide you need to allow another $4K for a turbo :-)
I know a few who had NA diesel and needed to some forced induction to get the level of performance they looked for.

Hi Steve
I reckon you should do a search on the 80 series & will find extensive discussions B4.
Might be better to go for a petrol model as the purist tends to hang on to the diesels making it rare & expension, what appears on the market cheaper are had it stuff. The only diesel you should be buying in 2004 is the 1HD-FT 24 valve model(produced between 95-97). The rest might be getting on a bit or not as technically refined as the 24 valved motor.
Check wind screen for leaks, motor & drive line. Bring an overall and slip on to check the bottom out. It tells you a lot about the pass live of the truck. Look up above the spare & behind front tyres for rust spots.
Good luck & merry christmas to all.
