Hello, has anyone experienced any problems with the small space between the tyre wall and the front
suspension arm, on the latest model Prado? It is only approx 10mm (you can't even run a finger between the tyre and the
suspension arm). Does this pose a problem at low pressure (ie. sand driving)? It would appear snow chains cannot be fitted to the front tyres. Are snow chains required on all tyres or is having them fitted to the rear sufficient?
Thankyou for your feedback. Wal...........

G'day Wal,
Dunno about chains in the snow, have only ever used them in mud.
One problem I can see with that lack of clearance, is if you got caught in some wet, heavy, blacksoil country. That would seriously impede your progress, and may possibly, stop you all together. Only if it was raining, or ground very wet, read sloppy, would you be mobile.
Sounds like sand driving might have some dramas too. Maybe someone here has used their newy in the dunes?
Happy Christmas

When a tyre's flat, or you air down in sand, last time I looked it was only the bottom part that bulged out :-))

Thats when you are stationary and looking at it. But what happens when you drive off? You can't tell me the flat bit doesn't go round and round.Bob

Truckster,
Steve has ROH
wheels which are offset outwards, increasing clearance

Thanks Truckster,
Have tried to find archives in offroader
forum but have been unsuccessful.
Must be quite simple but can you steer me in the right direction maybe some search keyword?
Regards Wal..

Looks like his archives are a little fubar at the moment, Ive mailed him!
Try again maybe next few days.
Failing that try the Prado list on Yahoogroups. www.yahoogroups.com and search for Prado or 90scool

Truckster, theres 3 Prado groups now.
The Yahoo one for the 120 series is called "120scool".
There are 2 for the 90 series Prados. The long standing one, which was called "90scool" is now called "90series" while a new one called "90scool_aus" has just started.
The 120series wheel info is in the technical section at www.lcool.org

Wal,
the 90 series indicates in the manual not to put snow/mud chains on front tyres, for same reasons, not much clearance.
On put chains on rear, not the way to go, but better than nothing, drive more carefully and have the best tyres for the conditions.

I was led to believe you shouldn't put chains on the front of the 90 series cause it buggers up the AWD diffs. maybe i wuz told wrong and now i have my
suspension lift i should invest in a set of chains.

somewhere back a few posts is someone asking about changing tyres on his new Prado - same problem - no distance between
suspension and tyre wall. Don't you just love these new 4WDs???????? and yes no snow chains. rgds
