HI,
I was wondering if it is possible to drive on any beaches in northern NSW.
Last weekend i drove on
Seven Mile Beach, near Broken Head however I was unsure as to whether i need ed a permit.
I also saw a few 4WD's on
the beach at Tyagarah, near Byron and Brunswick.
Does anyone know if i need a permit and where i can get a permit from.
The National Parks advised me that the only poarks beach i can drive on is in Bunjalung National
Park.
Appreciate and info.
By the way, if you are planning a trip to SE Qld and need any info on beach driving, just ask...
Cheers
Jeff

Hi Surfoz,
I had the same question some months ago as we will be up at Hastings Point in just a few weeks. The info I got is that there is nothing up around there and that the Tweed shire forbids any beach driving. But I'm happy to be told otherwise.
There is beach driving a bit further south on Ten Mile Beach off Bundjalung Nat
Park. I haven't tried it and can't tell whether it's any good. There is details for this one in a Boiling Billy Publication, 4WD tracks of new South Wales. However, it is out of print. I know my local library has a copy.

You can drive on
Seven Mile Beach from Lennox up to the Byron boundary(
sign post at foot of dunes approx 4-5
miles up),the road behind the dunes has been blocked off.
The beach south of
Ballina can be accesed behind the last caravan
park on the road out to the south wall, the sand can be tricky on the track in dry times, this beach can also be accesed at Patches Beach and a few other points,at a guess I would say that you can travel about ten
miles before you hit the rocks,I have not been past here.
Beach access is also at Evans Head from the north side of town, heading north.Swamp/Forest 4x4 drives can be had about twenty
miles east of Evans at Bungawalbin. No permits required for any of these.

The position of Bungawalbin has now changed to twenty
miles west of Evans(where it should be).

Thanks for the information.
I will definitely go south of
Ballina next time.
Seven Mile Beach was beautiful, we drove from Broken Head.
