Hi Guy's,
Back from over the ditch for a few weeks for Xmas, shipping the Patrol and Camper over proved to be the right thing to do have had a great 7 weeks so far with great camp sites and lots of good fishing, getting the gear over was fine hope it will be the same getting it back at the end of April. The bigest expense so far is the fuel the main parks cost only $22 for 2 people and are just great, DOC sites $5 per night and of course you can camp up us about any river that you want to. Patrol and camper going fine they have just not seen anything like this over therer and we are constanly asked if they can see through the rig so much so that we are now caming a fair bit up the rivers to get some fishing time in.Gone trout fishing New Zealand

It was a bit of a challange to say the least, i managed to get on a boat that takes imported secondhand cars for japan to NZ called ro ro boats or KIWI shipping for the patrol and camper it was about $1800 then they were extras like customs agents for export and also import then inspection fee in NZ for MAF then another to register as overseas vechile with AA then a WOF fee all up about $2400 for both you can half than for just the patrol.
We decided to use a Carnet which lets you drive on australian plates in NZ for 12 months with a 6 month exten if required 2 ways to obtain one you can put a bond up or pay an insrance premium ($2000) or if you dont use the Carnet then you have to pay the import tax it really depends how long and what type of vechile you have.
To come back cost a little more as the ro ro boats go to Japan first so you have to use another shipping line and theu can charge what they like we have been quoted about $3500 for both but i think that will come down when the time comes round.

So all up $8,000 for both the Patrol and Camper still a lot cheaper than hire car and accomadation.

Bit funny that they don't have many campers over there as Campomatic (one of the earlier campertrailers) started in New Zealand before being bought out and moved to Australia.

Have you tried any of the VKS bases from over the ditch?

Have tried all the VKS bases and yes can hear chatter and a few other things but can't transmit but do use the NZ network on both my codan HF and my UHF the network is not that large in NZ only about 20 people on and they were good enough to join us as australian vistors cost about $40 met up with the guy that runs the show his name is Malcolm Langley and is from Greymouth in the SI he also is quite skilled in 4wding and does tours on old coach tracks etc which are great has a web site www.on-track4wd.co.nzGone trout fishing New Zealand
