Steve,
I have a 2003 3.0L RA Rodeo. They are good offroad, they have a bit more ground clearance than the R9 Rodeo's. The overall final drive ratio is slightly taller, which means about 300 less rpm at 110 km/h. Low range is lower than before, which means crawlling down hills is excellent, no run away at all, and conversely, they crawl up hills with ease as well.
For straight line zing, very responsive engine, have no problem from 5th gear from 90 km/h being able to pull away to 140-150km/h to overtake a road train. It also has the ability to haul my boat along pretty well, maintaining 100-110km/h.

Cheers,

Dion.

Yeah.. I agree!

I've just fitted out the work vehicle. VERY nice to put dual battery systems under the tray. Nice electrical system for a non-jap car. The alternator could do with a few more amps out of them, but then almost all of them are like that.

I've just fitted a Warn XD9000i winch, ECB bull bar and such. There isn't a sufficient amount of space inside the engine-bay for a bat, so we knocked-up a mount under the alloy tray to support it. If you had the steel tub, then I would suggest finding a spot on the the other side of the fuel tank up towards the rear wall of the cab, using a sealed bat and laying it on it's side.

With our bat, we have it sitting on the inside of the chassis rails in a traditional configuration. We will probably look at putting a second alternator in it, otherwise if you flatten the battery using the winch, it would take a day or so to get the bat up to spec again.

In addition, I've added a Globalstar carkit, a pelican case tie down point, Nokia car kit, Garmin GPS V and a GME UHF radio to it. The radio is mounted on the rear firewall, with all of the cables (GPS/SAT/lights/UHF and such) going through the gromet at the back and out onto the mounting tabs to the side of the roof rack.

The only thing that I don't like about them is that they are very plasticy inside. The "mode operated tcase" looks like it can be overridden, but I haven't gone that far with it yet. ( it only has 53K's on it!!)

Yeah.. I'm impresses with the build quality of this LT model. The rear tub that we pulled-off could be better with the cargo barrier hoop (that weld half way down looks like it could have been better done by my 13 year old son!)

I'm looking at putting down some pennies when this truck comes up for auction in 18 months time... I'll be ensuring that it's taken in for it's services and not thrashed by the bleep heads here. (Otherwise they'll get the 100 series bleep box with the constantly-blowing rear diff) Then I reckon on a 2 inch suspension lift, a 2 inch body lift, new tyres and rims and a set of lockers.

Don't know if ARB have made a locker for the rear though.... Doesn't matter anyway!

Steve,
fuel figures, you need to tow around a fuel trailer with you. NO, JUST KIDDING! Very economical, will run on the smell of an oily rag. My first RA (got written off at 12000km when someone run that hard up me clacker they managed to push me 7m out into the intersection) I was getting 8.5L/100km in varying commuting cycles, 50, 60, 80, 90 and 100KM/h driving, with about 8.8-9.0L/100km when cruising on the highway at 110km/h. My second RA, now with 6000+km on it is in the same ball park with consumption, terrifically good.
My new RA a had a GD Gitsham bullbar as the GMH one looks 'falconised', with two antenna mounts, two lightforce 170's are mounted in the middle of it. GMH (AirTech) Snorkel fitted, GMH cruise control, GMH (Brown Davis sourced) 120L fuel tank, good for 1200+k's. ARB Air Locker for front diff, vacuum accumulator is relocated and compressor fitted there. GME TX4200 radio fitted in the DIN slot in the dash, TX835 mounted on the back of the centre console. Tuff Lid hard tonneu on the ute tub.
Only complaint about the cab is lack of spaces to put genuine accessory switches, had a genuine switch for spot lights, but Air Locker switch gone into that position, still assessing options to utilise genuine switch.
I made a home made storage system to go into the space behind the seats for 4WD recovery equipment, tyre repair, general tools, water, oil etc. New 15L Engel sits on top of storage unit, quite neat actually.

Cheers,

Dion.

Hi Dion,

How did your truck survive the impact?

What was the deformation like in the vehicle? Could you still open doors and such?

If you have pix, please relay them to me!

I'm interested to see how this little truck can handle impact and such.

My 93 Ford GT got hit up the bum at 80K's, killing the driver behind. The car was so badly damaged, it wasn't really recognisable from the rear. Got cut out as I broke all the ligaments in my back and stuffed my neck for about 2 months.

Chris,
I reckon it survived the impact quite ok, doors open no drama's. I don't think that there was much, if anything wrong with the chassis, just that being a brand new model to Australia, they weren't sure and erred very cautiously and decided it was probably less nause to write it off.
I do have pix of it, where would you like me to email them?

Cheers,

Dion.

Thanks Dion,
sounds like you have a great set up, sorry to hear about the first rig. I guess you got off pretty lightly after hearing about Chris in his rear ender.
