Hi, Wanting to but either of the above for the inland Pilbara. Troopys in 75 series seem to be pretty suited to what I need, family and associated gear to carry for camping. Wont be doing that much road work, use the car for that. 75s seem to priced around $10 000 for early eighties ones, which is about my price range. Any inherent probs with these 75s?, diesel or petrol doesnt really worry me either, uneless there is some big diffs between them, as i said, not doing that many kms in it. Thanks for any info.

Early 80's cars are getting old and will have heaps of Klms on them, things will be worn out, due for replacement, and could cost you more than its worth to keep running... Worse is they could die in the middle of nowhere when you dont want them to.

Its hard not being rich, I know that feeling :(

Diesel will be cheaper to run and go further on a tank

Thanks for that, What is high kms for a diesel? I have been told that 200 000 is alright??, There was a Troopy in Perth(75, 1992) 166 000, for 9 grand, dont know whether it was pet or diesel. I only need one now to explore around Tom Price, maybe have to get an old Landy lol. I have always been shy of 4WD purely because of the amount of things that can go wrong, diffs, tran case etc. Looked a couple of years ago and for $25000 you were getting early 90s cruiser with 200 000+ on them, all depends on how well they have been maintained I spose?. What would you recommend for $15 000, Troopy or am I dreaming of getting anything worthwhile for that money?, Thanks.

My GQ turned over 280,000 yesterday! Mates GQ turned over 540,000 yesterday! Both still going strong, Jim has owned his since new, 89 model, have another mate with 520,000 on his TD42 GQ as well..

Both diesels, but all depends on their history. SOme are fubar at 100,000klms. So if it has a good history, then it 'COULD' be ok.

You can still get mid 90's 80 series for $25,000 easily.. If you have that sort of $ DO IT! The one for $9k would be Petrol, they are THIRSTY, big 6 cyl engine in a big car.

Or as you say the old Series 2 landy is good!!!

For $15k you can still get good things, its just a matter of waiting for the right thing. You can get GQ's for that $, lots of other 4b's that are good.

How many people, how much stuff, bit more info would help out.

Tar, yeah 2 kids and all their stuff, Mrs and me, tent etc, probably 50-80kgs worth, of gear that is, probably about 200kgs of bodies. My mate bought a 90 GQ for 9 but it has the RB30 donk in it, they dont seem to be very popular, most seem to be 4.2 pet or diesel, and about 5000-10000 grand more, obviously they are OK as yours and your mates seem to be fine.

yea it all depends on how urgent you need it. If your willing to wait and look around at lots of cars you will find something that suits your budget and needs, thats in any make and model.

RB30's are good cheap cars to do conversions to Chev V8 Diesels with ;)

maybe Eric on here has something that may suit..
