Okay, it had been a long hot day and the
water looked very good.
So I forgot to check my pockets. From that I learnt that the remote control for keyless entry into a GU Nissan Patrol is neither waterproof or even resistant.
Anyone got any idea what its gonna cost me? Local dealer shut over Xmas and I figure I can't be the first numnut to do it so someone else must know what it costs?
Care to let me know.
Its the latest type and its only about 2 months old.

Hey Truckster, perhaps that shows an intent to not take the rap for doing it yourself and that is why insurance can be a bit high.
Are best to acknowledge when we have done wrong rather than say it is somebody else responsibility when we do something silly. Yeh it is cost shifting I know, and our government is doing it more and more. The question is though is what is the way to proceed.
I showered with a watch on once that was not a waterproof. Should have claimed warranty for stepping the way of the shower I suppose.......Regards

Why not... Everyone else seems to get value out of insurance, I would like to for once.. sick of paying, not claiming, yet the price goes up, some form of payment to me would be nice for once.

I took a mobile phone back in the first week after I got it as it was doing unexplained things (No Lyn, not hiding behind the cupboards) and the
shop was very helpful but took the old phone "out the back" to see if
water had ingressed and upon finding that it hadnt handed over a new handset.
The point being...THEY CAN TELL!
Water ingress is findable .... so taking it back and saying its not working would fail dismally if the dealer had any tincture of sense, thats not saying it woudn't work though.Laterally Literal

can't open it up and dry it out? A mate of
mine dropped his remote in our pool. Dried it out and it worked.

Have you thought of trying one of those mobile phone repair
places, they have lots of experience in cleaning
water damaged electronics, just be careful to get a quote first, some charge $80+, others as little as $15.

From Nissan?
Say goodbye to $90.00 plus labour. (Last one I priced about 2 years ago)
If you are careful, take the remote apart and dry it out. Use CO contact cleaner to keep the contacts rust free. Otherwise bye bye money!
There are a few units from Jaycar that you can use... Just copy the code and use them. You will need a mate with any 2000-current Patrol or Pathfinder to make it happen though. Then, all you need to do is recode the module to their pad.
I have stopped using them, as they are expensive and not very secure. I now use code-hoppers and an alarm to open/close the doors.

Labour? hahahaha for what. Just use they key, and they are waterproof too, although they do tend to fall out of your pocket into the
water.Laterally Literal

Be sure to try the drying option first, my hand held UHF managed to find it's way into the bait bucket (with salt
water) on the weekend, it would not work immediately but after pulling apart, rinsing and drying with a hairdryer it is now working again. No doubt ultimately it will die as a result of corrosion.
