Jimmy
After 2 days slugging around the used car lots of
Brisbane and the
Gold Coast chasing troopys I have come to the conclusion I may have to settle for something a little different. Most I have come across are either out of my price range 20+ or beat up rusty wrecks There is very little in the 10-15K mark. 2 in fact. 1 had done 220 000 in petrol and from the feedback so far is overpriced and still offered pittance for my Terrnao. The other yard was locked up but the price is right ( will check out tommorrow) But.. on the way home I came across a Nissan patrol with a raised roof ( I really need the space in the back ) an imported safari. The dealer tells me they are identical to the Australian Patrol as far as running gear and engine True/False? To me it seems a good deal
$16000
1989 4.2l Diesel
PTO Winch
Front/ Rear diff Locks (not sure if these can be engaged at the same time)
Electric windows
Bull Bar
110000klms
The k's seem genuine in as far as I can tell ie no eccessive wear on peddles, seats not worn out speedo numbers all level
My biggest concern is the cooling system, if its the same as our Aussie patrol no worries, I will never trust a dealers word. some of them are crafty beggars
Thanks
Jim

Being an Import, you can bet 10 years wages, that the klms are NOT original. Dont believe it...
Same running gear, yes, interior parts - no. They do have some other things like headlight wipers etc...
For the price, you can get a later model GQ with goodies too. Book price on 91 models is $14k!
www.redbook.com.au
You also have to think of resale value... If there will be any.

Agreed the resale value will be crap thats a given, but how do you tell with a resonable degree of surity that the klms are original or not
I forgot to mention it has a service history all in Japenese though so would have to translated to be much use.

Its an 89 model... 110,000?? Theres people in our club with 2000 GU's with 200,000+
It could be genuine, but George Bush has a brain too...
There are no laws stopping people changin the klms on imports. As soon as they hit the docks in Japan, the clock goes back.
Who would pay $16k for one with 250,000klms ? Looks more inviting with 110,000klms doesnt it?
Again, 91-93 mods can be had for that $.
ITs your $.
Also check www.gqpatrol.com for a list of things to check on GQs when buying.

Hi Jimmy, I would like to put my two bob's worths in about imports as
well.
There is no need for them to turn back the speedo as they do not get the opportunity to do the
miles like we do over here, for one it would cost them a fortune. One other thing about imports, I belive is they are built a lot better then the vehicles they sell to us new.
Your only problem I would think is the 24 volt system, have a talk to a sparky first.
Anyway had my say and I believe my little imported MU is the best rig around.
Happy and safe new year to all. BruceMU-ving on

24v is no great problem, much better in fact as there is nowhere near the current drain that there is on a 12v vehicle, electrical bits tend to last longer because of this. A big diesel cranking on 24v is much better than one on 12v. Twice the voltage equals half the current (amps) roughly.
As far as fitting 12v accessories there is no problem either, just fit a Redarc Charge Equaliser (
http://www.redarc.com.au/) across the two batteries and you can pull as much 12v from either one without causing any damage.
I have been running one on my Humvee for 18 months with no ill effects.
DO NOT take 12v from either battery without one of these as you will kill the batteries.
Some of the latest frigs using Danfoss compressors will run on either 12 or 24v.
