Which one? Do you mean the Brindabella Road?

So you do not want the Tumut to Canberra road but the Tumut to Wee Jasper road.

Again not too bad - however the last 15km or so near Wee Jasper would better be described as a track - very narrow and rough.

I can see that Google is sending you that way. I would go Brindabella Rd from Canberra to Tumut. Wee Jasper is on the road from Yass to Tumut. All the roads are pretty much the same, gravel and windy in sections. Yass to Wee Jasper is tar all the way, then gravel to Tumut. Safest, easiest but most boring is the highway through Gundagai.

Brindabella road is basically a dirt road like any other - Ok but can have a few corrugations. As you get closer to the Brindies the road starts to get a but windy but you may have idiots coming the other way cutting corners etc.

Haven't been along the Tumut-Brindabella section of that road for years but parts of it midway between Tumut and Brindabella used to get quite slippery after rain and according to the BoMet there has been plenty over the last month. It's only semi scenic - the views don't start until you get closer to Canberra.
