Just took my morning walk around the caravan park and came across a Subaru outback towing what lo0ks like a 17'+ golf caravan.

I looked up the towing capacity of the subaru and it's around 1300kg, but couldn't find the weight for the caravan.

I am guessing the on the road fully packed it would have to weigh well over 1300kg.

Does anyone have a more accurate weight?

Either way it would appear that he is travelling rather heavy for his Subaru.

Hello All.
It seems from reading many forums re towing, that if a vehicle has a tow capacity of, eg 3 tons, then it will tow three tons and even a bit more cos of the "I know i'm good factor"

In reality the tow rating for any vehicle is for ideal conditions and probably not for sustained action.
With a 3 ton rating most vehicles may tow 2 ton, and yes they will do it, but that is about the realistic extent of the capacity with a reserve of handling and braking for when things go bad.

I think anyone towing over 2/3 of whatever the manufacures claim is pushing it.

I think we can look forward to reading about more and more spectacular vanning accidents.

I missed that one . I was wrong once before , so that makes it twice now. I'll have to tell my wife and give her a good laugh.

Hi Boo Boo

There is an old saying that goes something like "believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see". We were in the middle of moving house when we had our van in the local caravan park, but we had both our cars. Two couples were wandering around and one Lady said to her husband "that car wouldn't tow that big van", Hubby's reply was "well it has got a towbar". the car was a Subaru Impreza the Tug was out being serviced. The wife and I still have a good chuckle about that one.

G'day peter

I'm fairly sure this one is the tow vehicle.

The back of the car is near the tow ball and the car has the same WDH as I have, only my Dmax is only towing a 12' van. LOL

G'day fellas

I got the weights of the internet. They were in Lbs, that is 2700lb.

I just converted it to around 1300kg, maybe it's a USA thing but most models were that figure.
